DESCRIPTION

  • BREGUET CLASSIQUE 7147

Watches belonging to the Classique collection are Breguet musthaves. Their timeless aesthetic is a hallmark bound to the prestigious watch brand. However contemporary the motifs adorning the Classique timepieces, they are in fact inspired by the decorative codes applied in the early days of horology. Watch decoration was initially motivated by functional concerns. It served to avoid premature tarnishing and strengthened the inherently fragile nature of clear or polished surfaces eminently vulnerable to nicks, scratches or other external attacks. Today, Breguet makes a point of honour of reproducing these decorative techniques, particularly engine-turning on dials, a field in which the Manufacture enjoys considerable historical legitimacy. The new Classique 7147, an extremely refined model featuring an entirely engine-turned silvered gold dial, is a remarkable example of this approach. While the main dial motif is “clou de Paris” hobnailing, the offset small seconds subdial at 5 o’clock is enhanced by a cross weave pattern. Hours and minutes are read off by blued steel Breguet hands sweeping over a chapter ring bearing Roman numerals. The Breguet secret signature, a token of authenticity, is engraved on either side of the 12 o’clock numeral.

Available in 18-carat rose or white gold versions, the Classique 7147 houses an ultra-thin mechanical self-winding movement with an off-centred oscillating weight. Its 40 mm-diameter case is fitted with a sapphire crystal caseback providing an opportunity to observe the distinctive technical characteristics of the model, including a Breguet balance-spring and a silicon escapement.
