DESCRIPTION

  • The ultimate watch of prestige
The Oyster Perpetual DAY-DATE is the most prestigious and exclusive watch in the OYSTER collection.
At its launch in 1956, the DAY-DATE marked a world first: the first calendar wristwatch to indicate the day of the week spelt out in full in a window on the dial in addition to the date – a technical feat at the time. With its status as a watch of great prestige, available only in precious metals, it quickly became the watch for influential people.

    Instantaneous day and date
The DAY-DATE’s day and date calendar disc mechanisms attest to its ingenious engineering. At midnight, the day and date change simultaneously and instantaneously.

The indication of the day of the week is available in a choice of 26 languages. The date display is magnified two and a half times by a CYCLOPS lens on the crystal. Both the date and the day can be rapidly adjusted using the winding crown.

Platinum and gold, hallmarks of nobility
The DAY-DATE has always embodied prestige and exclusivity. A hallmark of its nobility, its OYSTER case guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 1 00 metres (330 feet) is produced exclusively in 950 platinum or in 1 8 ct gold. The characteristically shaped middle case is crafted from a solid block of metal. The fluted case back is hermetically screwed down with a special tool exclusive to Rolex watchmakers. The winding crown, fitted with the patented TWINLOCK double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case. The bezel can be fluted, domed or, on the gem-set version, arrayed in the most beautiful of precious stones. The crystal is made of virtually scratchproof synthetic sapphire.
The waterproof OYSTER case provides the DAY-DATE’s high-precision movement with optimal protection from water, dust, pressure and shocks.

The DAY-DATE also offers a choice of unique dials in refined colours and textures.

    The PRESIDENT bracelet
The PRESIDENT bracelet, originally designed exclusively for the DAY-DATE, perfectly complements the model’s aesthetics. This elegant bracelet with semi-circular three-piece links, equipped with a concealed CROWNCLASP, offers the wearer unique comfort befitting the DAYDATE’s singular status. It is available in solid 950 platinum or 18 ct gold, materials selected with great care for their durability and incomparable nobility. The DAY-DATE is also offered with an OYSTER bracelet or a leather strap.

    Calibre 3155, a superlative chronometer
The DAY-DATE is equipped with calibre 3155, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex PERPETUAL movements, the 3155 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Its architecture, like that of all OYSTER watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.

The oscillator, the true heart of the watch, has a large balance wheel with variable inertia regulated extremely precisely with gold MICROSTELLA nuts. It is held firmly in place by a height-adjustable traversing bridge enabling very stable positioning to increase shock resistance. The oscillator features a blue PARACHROM hairspring patented and manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive alloy. Insensitive to magnetic fields, the PARACHROM hairspring offers great stability when exposed to temperature variations and remains up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. It is equipped with a Breguet overcoil enhancing the isochronism of the oscillations.

Calibre 3155 is fitted with a self-winding module featuring a PERPETUAL rotor, which ensures continuous winding of the mainspring by harnessing the movements of the wrist to provide a constant source of energy.

The DAY-DATE’s movement will be seen only by certified Rolex watchmakers, yet it is beautifully finished and decorated in keeping with the brand’s uncompromising quality standards.
