DESCRIPTION

  • Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve.

    Technologically and aesthetically advanced.

At Baselworld 2011, Carl F. Bucherer is introducing two new Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve watch models, also based on the brand’s visionary EvoTec Manufacture Concept. The brand’s high design standards remain unchanged: perfect legibility, striking aesthetics and the technical design of the Manufacture movement and functional module. New, however, are the power reserve, day of the week, small seconds and big date displays, each framed in a steel surround.

It differs from the usual image one has of it, because it is large. Indeed, exceptionally large. And in aesthetic and technical aspects too, the restyling deviates from the conventional, so that the power reserve indication fits perfectly with the unorthodox design of the date and small seconds. Together they represent the distinctive feature of the Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve, which is the expression of the independent visionary Manufacture Concept of Carl F. Bucherer. The innovative Manufacture in Lucerne set itself the goal of not merely embracing existing traditional mechanisms and complications and incorporating these into their own models, but of replacing them with more intelligent and reliable solutions. Typical of the independent thinking of Carl F. Bucherer, this approach to the development of Manufacture calibers and functional modules is based on their own engineering methodology which goes under the copyrighted term “Smart SimPlexity”.

Initial results of this completely new approach in 2008 were the CFB A1000 Manufacture movement and the mechanism that controls the Patravi EvoTec DayDate’s calendar displays. To change the big date, the Carl F. Bucherer design engineers incorporated a moveable finger on the date-change ring, which makes it possible, when changing the date from the 31st to the 1st of the following month, to change only the disk with the second digit while that controlling the first digit stays still.
The Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve features both the Manufacture caliber and this mechanism, and Carl F. Bucherer rounds these off with a new type of power reserve indication. A small red hand sits on the rack that is powered by means of a differential mechanism. It traces a gentle curve beneath an opening in the dial between the 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock index marks. When the watch is wound up, the hand moves across the scale, designed like the stage of an amphitheater, towards “High”, and as the watch winds down, it moves back towards “Low”. To indicate more clearly the power remaining in the barrel, the rack is coated in white, while the underlying surface is in a Carl F. Bucherer red that contrasts perfectly. As the power reserve runs down, the rack with its hand moves down and the area of visible red surface increases correspondingly. It is therefore immediately clear when the watch has little power left in the power reserve.
The frame of the power reserve indication is colored silver, the perfect aesthetic complement to the big date and small seconds hand. The date is prominently positioned in the upper left quadrant of the dial and is generously proportioned, even for a big date. The likewise conspicuously designed small seconds hand at 6 o’clock cleverly echoes the shape of the case, while the day of the week display at 9 o’clock rounds off the calendar display.

The deliberately understated, modern design concept of the Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve is emphasized through the geometric index marks that echo the gently curved shaping of the case sides. All in all, the dial of the Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve really does fulfill all the Carl F. Bucherer criteria for perfect legibility.
The sensational cushion-shaped case in which all four versions of the Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve are to be presented and which represents the esteemed hallmark for the Models of Carl F. Bucherer timepieces, based on the EvoTec Manufacture Concept. The bezel and crown, either in black rubber or now completely in stainless steel, render the case – available either in cool, modern stainless steel or  elegant rose gold – even more striking and distinctive. These
watch cases owe their iconographic character not least to the design elements that characterize the Patravi collection, such as the curved strap bars and the distinctive crown protectors.

The CFB A1000 – the perfect platform. The movement in the Patravi EvoTec PowerReserve is based on the CFB A1000 Manufacture caliber. A caliber which, thanks to its innovative technology and advanced design, is the perfect expression of the EvoTec Manufacture Concept by Carl F. Bucherer.

The characteristic feature of the CFB A1000 is the peripherally mounted and bidirectional winding oscillating weight, which supplies the gear with power. This mounting is one of the most demanding and challenging creations of all, which is why it could not be satisfactorily created before now. In contrast to the central rotor normally used, which always covers half the watch movement, the peripherally mounted oscillating weight allows an open view of the accurately ticking microcosm and thus combines the aesthetic value of a hand-wound movement with the comfort of an automatic winding. It also means that the caliber requires less height and that the construction of the functional modules on both sides is possible.
Carl F. Bucherer was able to realize this construction as a result of mounting the rotor on DLC-coated rollers (“Diamond Like Carbon”). Carl F. Bucherer fitted these rollers with new, maintenance-free high-tech ball bearing mountings with ceramic ball bearings. These ball-bearing/roller assemblies are mounted on rocking bars.
The rollers are very precisely positioned by means of ingenious springs, and the rocking bars can be precisely adjusted by means of eccentric cams. This dynamic shock-absorption mechanism is patented under the name “Dynamic Shock Absorption” (DSA), and is a highly efficient and reliable system. In the event of a sharp impact, the walls of the bridge reduce the radial displacement of the oscillating weight.
The innovative potential of the CFB A1000 is by no means exhausted. A further invaluable feature is the patented “Central Dual Adjusting System” (CDAS), an intelligent precision adjustment method with a central control element. The balance and escapement require adjustment only once,  and thereafter remain secured in position. This provides effective protection against shocks.
Carl F. Bucherer of course also breaks new ground in terms of decorative finish. The bridges and bars at their various levels have matt and brushed surfaces with diamond-cut facets. The aesthetic appearance of other components is reflected in their matt, brushed or polished finish.
