The creations dedicated to ladies vie in terms of delicacy, while the gentlemen\u2019s models are rich in variety: the black ceramic ww.tc Shadow asserts a dynamic, technical style, while the classicism of the Vintage 1945 and Girard-Perregaux 1966 is enhanced by new concepts. Two sporty and elegant watches have again been born from the partnership with the Monte-Carlo Historic Rally.<br \/><br \/>True to its Manufacture strategy, Girard-Perregaux is continuing with the development of its constant force escapement, the Constant Escapement, and its unique portfolio of high-end movements, thereby consolidating one of the most complete collections there is in the world of watchmaking. In particular two annual calendars are being presented this year, one accompanied by the equation of time indication, the other combined with the display of the signs of the zodiac.<br \/><br \/>With nearly 80 filed patents, the Manufacture continues to reinvest a high proportion of its turnover in its Research &amp; Development Centre, a genuine cornerstone of the business. It is reasserting its interest in pioneering techniques and materials, as shown in particular by the use of silicon or new technologies for certain movement components. It is consolidating its comprehensive approach, which enables it to design and produce both the external components of watches and their mechanisms. Girard-Perregaux makes in-house complete collections of movements: from Haute Horlogerie to high-end automatic winding mechanical to quartz.<br \/><br \/>The Manufacture integrates tens of different skills, from engineers to master watchmakers via dial enameller, from experts in movement decoration or to technicians in the case and wristlet manufacturing workshops. The world-renown Museum is undergoing a major renovation effort and is due to reopen in the first half of 2009. The ww.tc Shadow\u2019s imposing 43 mm black ceramic case is the fruit of a long and meticulous manufacturing process, the only way to achieve an exceptional result. Its perfectly homogeneous texture gives it some appealing assets: extreme hardness (much higher than steel) i.e. good wear resistance, while also being particularly light and wearable. Indeed, ceramic is considerably lighter than steel, and barely heavier than titanium, while also being completely biocompatible and hypoallergenic. Like the watchmaking professionals, the electronics and aeronautics industries in particular have also taken full advantage of it.<br \/><br \/>Advanced technologies are essential to achieve the ww.tc Shadow\u2019s case. Ceramic powder, consisting of over 90 % zirconium oxide, is first mixed with a polymer to give it the characteristics required for injection moulding of the middle. This moulding is followed by several stages, including firing in a furnace heated to over 1500\u00b0C, to eliminate any porosity in the ceramic and obtain its hardness. These actions are performed with great precautions and infinite patience, since the material is highly delicate to handle prior to its final state. The machining operations, used in particular for opening up the positions for the push-buttons and crowns, are performed just as painstakingly using diamond tools, the only kind that can work ceramic. Attesting to the care taken with every detail, the case has a meticulous satin-finish to eliminate any flaw and accentuate its shadowy look. Its architecture is superbly structured by graded shadows. The sophistication of this structure is boosted via the use of an internal titanium container and special screws for securing the case-back, with these screws also used for structural assembly of racing car engines.
