Members of IWC Management and numerous esteemed guests gathered to mark the forthcoming commencement of building work on IWC\u2019s new manufacturing centre in a manner befitting the occasion. IWC CEO Georges Kern was joined by Cantonal Councillor Reto Dubach, as well as Peter Neukomm and Rapha\u00ebl Rohner, heads of the municipal\u00ad\u00ad council\u2019s\u00ad finance\u00ad and\u00ad building\u00ad departments.<\/p>\n

SCHAFFHAUSEN FACILITIES EXPAND FOR THIRD TIME IN 10 YEARS <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s ground-breaking ceremony is about more than just marking the start of construction for the new production facility,\u201d comments IWC CEO Georges Kern, emphasizing\u00ad the\u00ad significance\u00ad of\u00ad the\u00ad event.\u00ad\u201cIt\u00ad is\u00ad a\u00ad commitment\u00ad to\u00ad Schaffhausen\u00ad as\u00ad the\u00ad home\u00ad of\u00ad IWC\u00ad and\u00ad to\u00ad attractive\u00ad working\u00ad conditions for our employees. It is also testament to the positive \u00adwork \u00adbeing\u00ad done \u00adby \u00adboth\u00ad the \u00adcity \u00adand\u00ad the\u00ad Canton\u00ad\u00ad of Schaffhausen to create the ideal con ditions for IWC to continue\u00adproducing\u00adunique\u00adtimepieces.\u201d\u00adWith \u00adan \u00adinvestment totalling around 40 million Swiss francs, this new building represents the largest expansion of production facilities to date. It follows the addition of the East Annex in 2005 and the West Annex in 2008 to the premises in the old town, which were constructed to meet growing demand. With 800 employees at its headquarters, IWC Schaffhausen is not only one of the most important employers in the region, but is an ambassador for the city\u2019s image across the globe. The company was able to secure development \u00adrights \u00adfor\u00ad the\u00ad 20,000-square-metre \u00adsite\u00ad thanks\u00ad in no small part to the residents of Schaffhausen, who 2\u00ad years \u00adago \u00advoted \u00adwith \u00ada \u00admajority \u00adof \u00adover\u00ad 80% \u00adin\u00ad support\u00ad of the luxury watch manufacturer\u2019s plans, demonstrating the trust they place in their local employer.<\/p>\n

NEW BUILDING CONSOLIDATES MANUFACTURING PROCESS <\/strong><\/p>\n

Once again, IWC is sending out a clear signal with the construction\u00ad of \u00adthe\u00ad modern \u00admanufacturing\u00ad centre.\u00ad\u201cOver\u00ad the past 10 years, IWC has grown from a niche company into a global brand, and we want to keep growing a little more each day,\u201d says Georges Kern of the ambitious building project. \u201cThe large site allows us to design the building with \u00ada\u00adview \u00adto \u00adcreating\u00ad optimized,\u00adcarefully\u00ad coordinated\u00ad lean production and logistics processes, which will enable us \u00adto \u00adfurther\u00ad improve\u00ad our \u00adability\u00adt o\u00ad compete\u00adinternationally.\u201d\u00ad Upon completion of the new building in October 2016, the Schaff hausen-based watch manufacturer will relocate the case and parts manufacturing departments along with the movement \u00adassembly\u00ad to \u00adthe \u00adMerishausertal.\u00adState-of-the-art\u00ad workstations\u00adwill \u00adbe \u00adprovided \u00adfor \u00ada \u00adtotal \u00adof \u00ad250\u00ad employees\u00ad\u00ad across\u00ad a \u00adfloor \u00adspace \u00adof\u00ad 13,000\u00ad square\u00ad metres,\u00adwhile\u00ad the\u00ad building\u2019s capacity allows for up to 400 workstations.<\/p>\n

ATTRACTIVE BUILDING IN ACCORDANCE WITH LATEST STANDARDS <\/strong><\/p>\n

The large expanses of green and the elegant architecture of \u00adthe \u00adtwo-storey \u00adflat-roofed\u00ad construction\u00ad ensure \u00adthat\u00ad the\u00ad staggered building complex blends seamlessly into the topography of the Merishausertal. The new manufacturing centre is not just the product of IWC\u2019s philosophy and its dedication to climate protection and ecological responsibility; the experience gathered from the new-build projects undertaken\u00ad over \u00adthe \u00adpast \u00ad10\u00ad years\u00ad has \u00adalso \u00adstrongly \u00adinfluenced\u00ad plans \u00adfor\u00ad the\u00ad building.\u00ad An\u00ad example \u00adof \u00adthis \u00adis \u00adthe\u00ad triple-insulated glass facade which ensures that the interior is\u00ad flooded\u00ad with \u00adlight.\u00ad\u201cWe \u00adare \u00adcontinuing \u00adon \u00adfrom\u00ad where \u00adwe\u00ad left off in 2008 with the West Annex, and implementing only the highest possible standards,\u201d continues Georges Kern. \u201cA long side\u00ad water\u00ad heat\u00ad recycling\u00ad and\u00ad heat\u00ad recovery\u00ad ventilation systems, we also use groundwater heating and cooling methods, and it goes without saying that our insulation measures meet the Minergie standard. We will also be able to\u00ad cover \u00ada \u00adsignificant\u00ad share\u00ad of\u00ad our\u00ad energy\u00ad requirements\u00ad with\u00ad the\u00ad photovoltaic\u00ad system \u00adthat \u00adis\u00ad planned \u00adto \u00adcover \u00ada \u00adlarge\u00ad section\u00ad of\u00ad the\u00ad flat \u00adroof.\u201d\u00ad Lighting \u00adin\u00ad the \u00adbuilding\u00ad and\u00ad the\u00ad surrounding \u00adarea \u00adwill \u00adbe\u00ad equipped \u00adwith\u00ad LED \u00adtechnology\u00ad\u00ad and controlled by motion sensors. Also planned as part of the infrastructure is an intelligent waste and recycling manage ment system to facilitate the reuse of waste from the \u00adproduction \u00adprocess.\u00ad A \u00adcanteen\u00ad will \u00adalso \u00adprovide \u00admeals\u00ad for\u00ad the\u00ad staff.\u00adIWC \u00adhas \u00adbeen \u00ada \u00adcertified\u00ad carbon-neutral\u00adcompany since 2007, and in line with this commitment will also provide \u00adits \u00ademployees \u00adwith \u00ada\u00ad smart \u00adfortwo \u00adelectric \u00adcar. \u00adA\u00ad final \u00adprogressive \u00adinitiative\u00ad comes \u00adin \u00adthe \u00adform \u00adof\u00ad charging\u00ad stations for the car and for e-bikes.<\/p>\n
