The models to wear right… under the sun
For this third episode, bright colours, stylish bracelets and marine or vintage chic inspirations are here just in time for the holidays – whether they just begin for some, or come to an end for others. Each one of these watches was visibly designed as a true fashion accessory, ready to match the prettiest summer outfits. Zenith, Hamilton, Herbelin, Oris, Version, Breitling or Flik Flak (for children) … let’s zoom onto these models to wear right… under the sun.
ZENITH, Defy Revival Diver

This Defy Revival Diver reinvents the vintage appeal of the 1969 Defy Diver A3648 through a modern edition displaying a faceted 37mm case made of micro-blasted titanium.
I have to admit this is my latest favourite of the season – I would gladly wear it not only this summer, but all year long. This Zenith watch, inspired by the 1969 original Defy Diver A3648, is a true tribute to the revival spirit. With its water-resistant feature to 600 meters, no wonder some call it “the time strongbox”!

This unparalleled diver knows everything about deep sea and saturation diving. The crown of its octagonal micro-blasted titanium case is set under the hour marker at 4:30 o’clock, enhancing the wearer’s comfort. The 37mm case is equipped with a fourteen-sided bezel placed above a round unidirectional rotating bezel in titanium and fitted with a yellow-tinted sapphire insert.

Yellow truly is the becoming colour of this watch: this bright and showy tint can be found on the hands and the minute track, creating a pleasant contrast with the black matt dial. This effect remains in the dark, as they both glow under black light. The movement, which offers a power reserve of 50 hours, is perfectly satisfying. The back of the case displays an Elite automatic movement with an oscillating weight adorned with ” Côtes de Genève ” waves, and the symbol of the Zenith manufacture: a star. Well done!

HAMILTON, Khaki Navy Scuba
Fuchsia pink, shrill orange and bright yellow… the straps of the new Khaki Navy Scuba watches by Hamilton know how to catch the eye.

Each colour is related to a summer symbol: orange for the corals, yellow for the tropical fish, and fuchsia for the surfboards. There is something for every taste! One sure thing: the rubber straps match the minute track and the tip of the seconds hand.

These 40mm steel watches present a black dial with contrasting hands and indices, covered with Super-LumiNova®. On a side-note, we expected a stronger water-resistant feature for such a model, as it is water-resistant only to 100 meters… Maybe Hamilton will hear our feedback. The dial is also equipped with a rotating unidirectional bezel with a 60 minutes scale and a luminescent triangle at 12 o’clock.

Last but not least, these models are powered by a H-10 automatic caliber that comes with an anti-magnetic spiral Nivachron™. Its power reserve is about 80 hours. Yet, as this trio is perfect for snorkeling activities, it is not suitable for extreme sports or deep-sea diving.

ORIS, Aquis Date “Taste of Summer”

The Aquis Date is one of the emblematic models of Oris. This independent Swiss watchmaker brand is particularly famous for its diving watches that combine technicity and sturdiness. These two qualities can be found in the last models disclosed this summer in the “Taste of Summer” collection. Their dials’ colours caught our attention – apparently “inspired by the crepuscular light that lingers into the mid-summer night in the Waldenburg Valley”.

Evoking the nuances of the sunrise sky, the deep-cerise 36,5mm dial is surrounded by a rotating ceramic unidirectional bezel. On the other hand, the 43,5mm edition displays a purple dial reminding of the sunset sky, with a tungsten inlay in its bezel. These true divers’ watches contain essential technical features: a screwed-down crown, luminescent indices and hands – with a lollipop seconds hand – and a safety clasp. They also are water-resistant to 300 meters. This tasteful pair is powered by an automatic caliber with a power reserve of about 41 hours. Oris’ emblematic red rotor is visible through the transparent case back.

HERBELIN, Cap Camarat Square

The Cap Camarat Square watch could be defined by these two adjectives: athletic and urban. The small-scaled case (30x30mm) is made of 316L stainless steel that is both sturdy, hypoallergenic and resistant to corrosion. This last feature is essential, as this watch is water-resistant to 100 meters. Also, the collection is named after a cape located in the Saint-Tropez peninsula. This vintage model is inspired by an emblematic 1970 watch: a balanced shape (thanks to the square case with rounded corners) and a horizontal stamped finishing with polished facets.

The polished steel bezel, accented with six decorative screws aligned with the bevelled indices, underlines the visual harmony of the watch. The sun-brushed champagne pink dial reveals a pattern stamped horizontally – which evokes, for me, the wooden decking of boats. The dial holds thin luminescent hands powered by a fine Swiss quartz movement. The stainless-steel bracelet lengthens this model to elegant extends. With 4 links alternating both brushed and polished finishing, it is equipped with a deployment buckle. Besides, its supple tapering structure makes it easy to adjust and to wear comfortably.

BREITLING, Superocean Heritage Automatic 36
Such a remarkable comeback for Breitling’s Superocean collection, which unveils a new set of models, including this 36mm edition, with a colour fresh as the summer breeze.

This monochrome stainless-steel watch displays a bright mint green tint – perfect for the summer. The rubber straps don’t fail to copy the Milanese link pattern that can be found on the metal bracelets. The sun-brushed dial perfectly matches the unidirectional bezel adorned with a ceramic inlay. The screwed-down crown and case back ensure a water-resistant feature, up to 200 meters, which make this watch just right for extreme water sports. No wonder Kelly Slater, ambassador of the brand, wears one of the 500 copies of a special edition model to ride the best waves.

Such a beautiful story – as beautiful as this model is, both inside and outside. Indeed, its core is powered by an automatic manufacture caliber, which vibrates at 28,800vph, thus making it a certified chronometer by the COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) and offering a power reserve of 42 hours.

FLIK FLAK, Fizz In Mint

As a subsidiary of The Swatch Group, Flik Flak was especially created to help our kiddos learn how to read the time in a fun way. Its educational design makes it stand out from the other regular watch models for children. Indeed, Flik Flak models display two distinctive hands: Flik (in blue) shows the minutes and Flak (in red) shows the hours. But sometimes, these little characters are replaced by simple hands – that remain color-coded – which is the case of this Fizz In Mint model: while the purple hand indicates the purple minute indices, the pink hand shows the hours. Perfectly studied for children, it is shock-resistant and water-resistant to 30 meters. The models equipped with a fabric strap are machine-washable at 40°C in a mesh laundry bag. Available in numerous bright-colored patterns, all the models are powered by a Swiss quartz movement.
