THE LEGENDARY AUTAVIA MAKES A COMEBACK
TAG Heuer introduces a revamped version of the iconic Autavia. Inspired by its rich heritage and origins in the automobile and aircraft industries, this twenty-first-century model is ready for a life of adventure. This contemporary timepiece blends the legacy of the original Autavia models with a refreshed adventurous spirit and state-of-the-art in-house technology. With features that take inspiration from the original Autavia of the 1960s, this model houses the avant-garde watchmaker’s new Isograph carbon-composite hairspring for improved timekeeping performance.
Welcoming back the Autavia
The cockpit-inspired Autavia 42 mm three-hand model features SuperLuminova®details on its smoky-effect blue dial and is perfectly legible in any conditions. A date window is located at 6 o’clock on the dial. The blue ceramic bezel rotates bidirectionally, and the rounded stainless-steel case and bevelled lugs mimic those of the Autavia from the 1960s. The XL crown takes inspiration from TAG Heuer pilots’ watches and timers from 1933 to 1957.
This models is presented on a dark brown leather strap, and can be swap out for a stainless-steel bracelet, to suit any style or any adventure. This stainless-steel bracelet that can be bought separately, and easily changed with a push button on the underside of the strap.
The automatic mechanical movement inside the Autavia is protected by a stainless-steel caseback. The propeller and tyre that are etched into the caseback are a nod to the collection’s rich heritage.
Designed to accompany the wearer through life’s greatest journeys, this versatile timepiece is understated enough to pair with any casual style, and yet its striking design enhances any elegant look. Off the beaten track or in the boardroom, authenticity and confidence pair perfectly with the Autavia’s.
Isograph: TAG Heuer’s new cutting-edge technology
Powering the versatile Autavia 42 mm three-hand timepiece is the chronometer-certified Calibre 5. The original Autavia was known for making use of the latest technology, and this model is no different. The new Autavia model features the cutting-edge carbon-composite hairspring that the avant-garde watchmaker introduced earlier this year. The combination of the calibre and the carbon-composite hairspring gives every model in this collection Isograph distinction. The trademarked name comes from the Greek word iso, which means “equal”, and refers to the stable and consistent movement of the component.
The benefits of the carbon-composite hairspring include being virtually unaffected by gravity and shock, ensuring concentric oscillations for improved performance, being made from a completely anti-magnetic material which prevents inaccuracy caused by contact with magnetic fields, and featuring optimal thermodynamics.
A brief history of the Autavia
As one of the pillars of the brand, the Autavia was a natural choice for TAG Heuer to launch as its own line, with it joining the ranks of the Carrera and Monaco collections. From 1933 to 1957, the Autavia was a dashboard instrument used in racing cars and aircraft. The name itself comes from the combination of automobile and aviation. After production of the Autavia dashboard timer stopped, the name was still available, and then CEO Jack Heuer decided to use it for the chronograph wristwatch the Swiss watchmaker launched in 1962 and produced until 1985. Since then, the Autavia had never returned as a collection.
Today, a new Autavia joins the Swiss watchmaker’s range of bold timepieces. With design elements and features inspired by the models introduced over half a century ago, this new version forges its own path with a distinguished identity for a new generation of adventurers. Its daring spirit, however, remains the same.
