DESCRIPTION

  • The return of the Great Classics

The AVIATOR GMT and AVIATOR DUAL-TIME are a pair of watches requiring no introduction and which have become genuine classics since Vulcain’s rebirth in 2002. The Manufacture in Le Locle is now reinterpreting these iconic timepieces designed for those who enjoy juggling with time zones. Powered by the famous Cricket V10 alarm calibre, these two new models radiate a blend of modern charm and sporting elegance.

No other model so effectively embodies the stylistic approach adopted by Vulcain since the brand’s renewal in 2002. A contemporary design imbued with classicism and placed in the service of technique has enabled the two AVIATOR GMT and AVIATOR DUAL-TIME star models to enjoy great success among fine watchmaking enthusiasts. Vulcain is now revisiting its classics by offering them a more modern and dynamic face.

Designed for those who regularly criss-cross the globe, flying from Paris to Sydney via Moscow, Tokyo or New York, the AVIATOR GMT 09 features a new dial with a boldly assertive character. Displaying the hours, minutes, seconds, 24-hour world-time indication as well as the alarm function, it reveals a multitude of details that make all the difference. The new more contemporary design is naturally intended to be an extension of the previous models, but the centre of the dial which is broadened by an elegant Côtes de Genève guilloché motif lends the watch an even purer, more pared-down appearance. The dial circle is no longer punctuated by baton hour-markers and Roman numerals, as on the original model, but instead by 12 trapeze-shaped cabochon hour-markers. This formal evolution endows the watch with renewed dynamism and enhanced readability. Available in a 42 mm case in 18K rose gold or in polished or satin-brushed steel, the AVIATOR GMT 09 comes with a choice of versions: black dial with 18K rose gold hands and hour-markers; charcoal grey dial with steel hands and hour-markers, or silver-coloured dial with blued steel hands and hour-markers.

The aesthetic evolution of the AVIATOR DUAL-TIME 09 is even more striking. This model greatly appreciated by all those having to cope with time zones on a daily basis is revealing an even more resolutely sporting side of its character this year. The philosophy of this watch remains unchanged, with a 42 mm case in steel or 18K rose gold faithful to the original. Nonetheless, the crown and pushpieces have been redesigned in a decidedly more modern way. Meanwhile, the dial has swapped its classic character for a more chic, sporting design. The former metal baton-shaped hour-markers and Roman numerals of the first time-zone display have been replaced by large stylised Arabic numerals and generously proportioned hour-markers. The dial with central Côtes de Genève finishing is more modern, while the arrow-type hands have been entirely redesigned. The new AVIATOR DUAL-TIME 09 is available in several versions: a black dial with steel hands, or a charcoal grey or silver-coloured dial with blued steel hands. A striking evolution for this model that has become a Vulcain classic.

While the AVIATOR GMT and AVIATOR DUAL-TIME have been given a face-lift, both models nonetheless maintain a classic technical basis. They beat the cadence of Vulcain’s signature Cricket V10 alarm calibre, a mechanical hand-wound movement equipped with twin barrels – one for the movement, and the other for the alarm. A worthy descendant of the famous calibre that has forged Vulcain’s reputation since 1947, Calibre V10 reveals in this model a set of finely fashioned and skeletonised ratchet-wheels as well as a wealth of meticulous finishes that all those wishing to explore its secrets can freely admire through the sapphire crystal case-back.
