Hamilton x Death Stranding 2: The Watch Gamers Have Been Waiting For
With its long and rich experience in the world of cinema, Hamilton naturally partnered with Koima Productions, whose video games are inspired by arthouse cinema. The brand's previous collaborations with films such as Dune: Part 2, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and Interstellar have piqued the studio's interest, highlighting the potential of a watchmaking partnership. Focus on the new limited edition American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2, to coincide with the release of the video game Death Stranding 2.
From game to reality
In collaboration with Hideo Kojima’s creative team, Hamilton is launching a futuristic limited-edition watch inspired by the Boulton model, one of the watch brand’s signature pieces. Featured in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, it is also available for purchase in selected stores worldwide. Renowned for his avant-garde creations, Kojima continues to challenge the rules of video games by blending complex storytelling with cinematic aesthetics. Accompanied by international figures such as Norman Reedus and Léa Seydoux, he is shaping a unique universe that transcends the boundaries of the gaming world.
For this new partnership, Hamilton approached artistic director Yoji Shinkawa, a loyal collaborator of Kojima, to design a watch reflecting the techno-apocalyptic atmosphere of the game. The result: an exclusive model, at the crossroads of watch design and science fiction.
American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2: a watchmaking UFO
Produced in a limited edition of just 2,000 pieces, the American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2 watch captures the iconic Boulton aesthetic. Clean, arched lines define the 36 x 48 mm case, machined from titanium with a black PVD coating.
Ultra-robust and corrosion-resistant, this material offers increased durability while reducing the case’s weight by 45%. This avant-garde piece is distinguished by the integration of seven sapphire crystals: a main opening accompanied by two lateral columns of three crystals, following the contours of the case. This unique architecture creates dynamic plays of light and shadow, reinforcing the sculptural appearance of this watchmaking UFO.
On the dial, lightly grained on the outside and smooth in the center, the gray indexes contrast with an orange lacquered seconds hand and a marked marker at 12 o’clock. The openworked hour and minute hands, inspired by the structure of sapphire crystals, visually lighten the overall appearance. Extending from the case, the integrated bracelet is also crafted from black PVD titanium.
A moving watch
Housed in a movement holder with a “tar” finish, echoing that of the dial, the three-hand automatic caliber is visible through a transparent caseback, engraved with the name of the video game. The beautifully crafted mechanism has approximately 80 hours of power reserve and a non-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring, resistant to temperature changes and shocks—very useful features given the game’s atmosphere.
The American Classic Boulton Death Stranding 2 model should find its audience. For the less purist among us, whether we embrace this science fiction atmosphere, it is fascinating to watch the teaser of the video game.
