WITH HAMILTON'S CEO

Hamilton takes the lead role… in China!

Frank Sans C is ever ready when it comes to intercepting a watchmaking Maison CEO while they are in Paris. Which is why our chief tick-tock authentic fanatic jumped at the chance and snatched CEO of Hamilton Vivian Stauffer after he gave a press conference in the French capital. Mr Stauffer had time to show us a few new pieces, and a special model that you would never have seen otherwise... Exclusive.

Hamilton is the lead actor on the big screen.

We have already seen Hamilton watches as guest stars in Hollywood movies. Now, the brand is also appearing on the Chinese big screen!

CEO of Hamilton Vivian Stauffer brought a few exclusive surprises with him…

Hamilton Jazzmaster Regulator Automatic Limited Edition: that is the official name given to the new star piece of Frant Gwo’s new movie, “The Wandering Earth 2”, out in cinemas last January 22nd. The Chinese producer asked the watchmaking Maison to create a unique, exclusive item for its high-budget movie. A challenge the brand took on, for this is not its first time.

“The Wandering Earth 2”, a movie by Frant Gwo.

The brand has indeed had its fair share of working with movies through “Independence Day: Resurgence”, “Interstellar” and “The Martian”. Now, Hamilton is broadening its movie experience with a new, simple brief: to think of a way to show “a round sky embracing a square earth”. Well, maybe not that simple! Still, Hamilton managed to present the movie producer with a model straight out of a science-fiction movie. Watchmaking, but make it UFO!

Hamilton Jazzmaster Regulator Automatic Limited Edition: the star of the show

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Regulator Automatic Limited Edition, in black or in white.

This new movie star displays a regulator dial with non-coaxial hands, which means they are placed separately on the dial. This way, the watch is far more precise. Another atypical feature of the dial: it is embedded in a transparent, square case. The dial, which perfectly suits Frant Gwo’s idea to balance shapes, also displays a both concave and convex surface which emulates planets in orbit.

The black or white of the dial is contrasted by the red-lacquered crown and hands, a symbolic colour for China and for the WEII logo on the actors’ jumpsuits. Another specific feature of the piece: the transparent, square case shows a slight amount of skin. The Jazzmaster Regulator Automatic, destined for the Chinese market, is a limited edition of 122 pieces which took two to three years to work on. However, another “more conventional” version is available to the rest of the world: the Jazzmaster Thinline watch.

These two very understated watches display a blue sun-brushed dial powered by an H-10 automatic calibre that is equipped with a comfortable 80-hour power reserve and a Nivachron™ balance spring. Their sporty chic design is enhanced by the pierced blue leather strap, which makes it that much more comfortable to wear.

Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic Chronograph 42 mm

This steel chronograph, with a 42-mm diameter, was produced in four different variations powered by an H-31 automatic movement. The latter is equipped with a 60-hour power reserve and an anti-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring. Designed for the relentless urban life, the watch displays a blue sun-brushed dial contrasted with three counters inspired from the design of speed meters – respectively placed at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock – and a date aperture (between 4 and 5 o’clock).

Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III is a chronograph with two faces.

With its two faces, the Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III is a treasure of inventiveness on Frank Sans C’s set. This avant-garde collection, launched in 2013, reveals an innovating concept: a dual-faced dial. On one side, the third-generation edition of this chronograph currently shows a dial with a display of the time and the chronograph function.

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III has a revertible dial.

On the other side, the dial displays very useful measuring scales: a tachymeter and a pulsometer, which respectively measure speed and pulse (see our previous article “High-scale watches” and Frank Sans C’s show “Échelles horlogères, pour tout mesurer!?”). At the back, the skeleton dial gives a glimpse of the inner workings of the meticulously decorated automatic calibre and its oscillating weight in slight openwork. This revertible case is delivered with a brown leather strap with blue topstitching.

The inner workings of the automatic movement, the tachymeter scale and the pulsometer scale are visible at the case back.
