Tudor drops anchor at Paris Rive Gauche
A few days ago, Frank Sans C was invited to the opening of the first Tudor shop in Paris, for a reception involving cherry-picked watchmaking journalists. You can find on his social media a vox pop organised with the Lassaussois family. Today, he interviews Valentin Lassaussois, who just took over the shop – a good occasion to browse through the house’s most iconic models. Lights, camera, action!
The first Tudor shop is made by Lassaussois
Rive Gauche, Paris: Tudor chose to set their first Parisian shop at 56, rue de Rennes, in the 6th arrondissement.

As well as having chosen an impactful and emblematic part of Paris, the watchmaking company established a choice collaboration with Lassaussois Les Montres Les Bijoux. You knew Jean, the father, now meet Valentin, his son who just took over the shop.

Valentin, a master watch-maker, guided us through his new shop, a place imbued with history, know-how and collaborations (deep-diving, Formula 1 or cycling companies). The first floor is dedicated to welcoming customers, with a cosy salon and a bar, as the place is also intended to display Tudor’s new collections as well as iconic models.

The perfect jewelry case for Tudor’s collections
Black Bay 58 Bronze Boutique Edition
Brown is the trendy colour of this season, and is present on this 39mm Black Bay 58 model, made of bronze. This graceful colour combination that was already used in a Heritage Black Bay collection undeniably enhances the vintage look of the watch – evoking old copper-coloured ships and diving suit equipment.

This material, a high-performance bronze aluminium, guarantees the colour to evolve a unique patina according to the wearer’s habits. This “living” metal that reacts to its environment, adorns the bracelet of this boutique edition model with copper hues. For the first time at Tudor’s the bracelet inspired by 1950/1960 riveted models is equipped with the new T-fit technology, an 8mm rapid adjustment clasp.

Please note that an additional brown fabric strap with a golden stripe is delivered with the watch. Equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel and a “brown-bronze” aluminium disc, the matching dial displays Tudor’s iconic luminescent “snowflake” hands. They follow the lively rhythm of a self-winding manufacture caliber, certified chronometer by the COSC. The movement is endowed with a pierced tungsten rotor system and an anti-magnetic silicon hairspring, and offers a power reserve of about 70 hours.

Black Bay Chrono “Blue” Boutique Edition
Another boutique edition, from the same Black Bay collection but this time as a sportier variation. This model faithful to the line’s codes presents a 41mm satin-polished case made of 316L stainless-steel.

This case, water-resistant up to 200 meters, is equipped with a fixed bezel and a tachymetric scale. Its blue anodized aluminium inserts match the domed totaliser. With a slight sun-brushed satin finish, it is punctuated by 2 silver snailed subdials (small seconds at 9 o’clock and a chronograph 45-minute counter at 3 o’clock), snowflake hands, round luminescent indices and a date aperture at 6 o’clock. The beveled lugs create a remarkable bracelet taper that adds an undeniably comfortable flexibility.

But let’s study the bracelet further: 5 stainless-steel links with polished and satin-brushed finishes that shine with every movement, also equipped with the same T-fit clasp, allowing the wearer to adjust it quickly and easily. On the inside, this chronograph is powered by a self-winding movement certified by the COSC, with a 4Hz frequency (about 28,000 vibrations per hour) and a power reserve of 70 hours.

Black Bay 58

Note that this gorgeous piece is competing for the La Montre de l’Année award (Category: €2,001 to €5,000). This burgundy-dialed Black Bay 58 was the heart-throb of the last Watches and Wonders exhibition where it was unveiled. This model, inspired by a prototype designed in 1990, displays some inherent features – snowflake hands, T-fit clasp, a domed dial and a unidirectional rotating bezel – alongside a few technical differences from the other collection’s models. Its self-winding calibre is certified chronometer by the COSC (the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute) and Master Chronometer by the Federal Institute of Chronometry (METAS). Thus, the watch is water-resistant up to 200 meters and can resist magnetic fields as powerful as 15,000 gausses.

Pelagos Ultra
The Pelagos Ultra is undoubtedly one of the most technical models ever made by Tudor to assist deep-diving and saturation diving sessions. Indeed, it is water-resistant up to 1,000 meters, a key-feature for a divers’ watch.

With green grade X1 Super-Luminova® and blue BGW9 coating the snowflake hands (hours hand and seconds hand) as well as the large indices, the dial’s legibility is guaranteed. What’s more, the 43mm grade 2 titanium case features a helium release valve. It is also reinforced with grade 5 titanium and equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel and a matte black ceramic inlay.

The watch is also equipped with a Tudor patented adjustable clasp and a diver’s extension. This very intuitive buckling system displays a luminous visual maker that indicates what setting the bracelet is at. Besides, this model is also available on a black rubber strap. Finally, this edition is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement with a bidirectional rotor system, certified chronometer both by the COSC and METAS. Offering a power reserve of about 65 hours, it features an anti-magnetic silicon hairspring.

Tudor Royal

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. The Tudor Royal collection has become the benchmark for sporty-yet-elegant watches. The integrated bracelet, with its thought-through design made of 3 satin-finished links framed by 2 polished elements, is particularly comfortable. Available in 316L stainless-steel or two-coloured steel and yellow gold, this self-winding watch fits every style and every wrist size thanks to its 4 available diameters (41, 38, 34 or 28mm).

A special mention to the 41mm edition, whose mechanical movement ensures a simultaneous display of the day (at 12 o’clock) and of the date (at 3 o’clock): a concentrate of precision and efficiency. This model also stands out by its shiny sun-brushed dial, that is available in many tints: black, silver, champagne, blue or salmon. On top of that, the crenelated bezel alternates grooved and polished finishes. For those who want an even brighter model, some female editions are adorned with mother-of-pearl and diamonds.

The presence of applied Roman numerals doesn’t make the model less sporty. On the contrary, these numerals express Tudor’s desire to make classicism eternal. All in all, a beautiful piece that sets the tone with a design not set in stone.
