DESCRIPTION

  • CAP CAMARAT AUTOMATIC GMT

    LONGING FOR ELSEWHERE

A present-day reinterpretation of a 70s-model watch from the watchmaking heritage of the French watch manufacture Michel Herbelin, the Cap Camarat Automatic has enjoyed tremendous success since its launch in 2018. Having already presented several versions of a three-hand watch model with date, the watchmaking brand is now introducing a timepiece equipped with a GMT function coupled with a manual worldtimer: a first for Michel Herbelin. Astutely designed for managing time differences with precision, this stylish globetrotter is being issued in a limited edition of 500 numbered pieces.

    A FUNCTIONAL TIMEKEEPING INSTRUMENT

Prized by travellers and businessmen working abroad, the GMT function is a watch complication that allows wearers to quickly view the local time as well as the time back home. In this case, the time back home is indicated by a hand with a luminescent red-and-white triangle tip that is positioned to the city of choice using the crown located at 3:30. Combined with the minute hand, it indicates the time of the second time zone via a 24-hour scale adorned with a two-tone day/night indicator (azure blue/silver).

The Cap Camarat Automatic GMT is also equipped with a manually adjusted worldtimer function. Positioned at 2:30, the screw-down crown is used to turn the rotating interior bezel ring to the different reference cities representing the 24 different time zones. We just have to align our time zone to noon to determine the position of the other reference cities according to the local time zone, and then check the 24-hour scale to see the time anywhere in the world at any given moment.

    A SPORTY CHIC STYLE

Showcasing its impressive functions with a sporty chic look, the Cap Camarat Automatic GMT remains faithful to the collection’s 70s design. Embellished with vertical brushing and polished facets, the 316L stainless steel case (42 mm) features a hexagonal shape softened by the roundness of the bezel. The bezel, which has the same finishing, is distinguished by six subtly contrasting decorative screws complementing the whole design.

Protected by a sapphire crystal, the dial evokes the French brand’s signature nautical theme with its colour. The horizontal-stamped navy blue sunray background showcases the bevelled hour markers as well as the rectangular faceted hour and minute hands. Their typical 70s shape was inspired by the original Michel Herbelin model, and their luminescent coating ensures perfect readability in dark environments. Embellished with a date aperture at 3:00, the dial’s layout is clearly arranged to provide optimal visibility.

The stainless steel bracelet integrated into the case is also a classic feature of the watch models of the time. Sporting four links with a polished and brushed finish, it perfects the classically elegant style of this 100 metre water resistant watch all while accentuating its sturdy character.

    AN AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT

Like all Michel Herbelin watches, the Cap Camarat Automatic GMT provides the precision of a quality Swiss movement (Sellita). Powered by the SW330-2 automatic calibre, it beats at 28,000 vibrations per hour and has a 56-hour power reserve. Watch enthusiasts will appreciate the transparent case back revealing the mechanism’s gears, including the Michel Herbelin engraved oscillating weight.

Elegantly constructed with a sporty chic aesthetic appropriate for any circumstance, Michel Herbelin’s limited edition Cap Cama- rat Automatic GMT is a true companion that can be counted on to juggle time zones without error. Made in France. Designed, engineered, assembled, adjusted, and inspected at the Michel Herbelin workshops in the Jura mountains of the Franche-Comté region, it has inherited the traditional French watchmaking savoir-faire passed down from father to son since 1947.

    ABOUT MICHEL HERBELIN . . .

In the last century, Michel Herbelin founded his eponymous brand as an independent family-owned traditional French watchmaking company in Charquemont, in the region of Haut-Doubs near the Swiss border. Set in the heart of the manufacturing region of Fine Watchmaking – close to its main suppliers to ensure absolute control over production – the company has its own design studio within the workshops where watches are assembled. Beautifully made, in a price range from €300 to €3,000, Michel Herbelin watches are exclusively equipped with Swiss movements. In 2020, annual production reached 85,000 watches, with distribution through 3,000 points of sale across 50 countries. Heir to a watchmaking tradition stretching back almost 75 years, this Jura brand is spurred on by the passion of a family that has seen three generations take up the craft since 1947. Managing the company started by his father since 2010, Pierre-Michel Herbelin entrusted it to four young men in 2020, including the founder's grandsons Maxime and Mathieu Herbelin and two close members of the "Herbelin family": Cédric Gomez-Montiel and Benjamin Theurillat.
