Drawing on the watchmaking her- itage of French brand HERBELIN with contemporary flair, the Cap Camarat Square has a seductively refined design. This shaped watch, named after a cape in the south of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, is now available in a chronograph version. Presenting a quartz movement, this new timepiece faithfully echoes the collection’s neo-vintage spirit while its watch complication proclaims a sporty nature, all at an accessible price range.

A CHRONOGRAPH THAT’S IN SHAPE

Loosely inspired by a timepiece from the 1970s from HERBELIN’s watchmaking heritage, the Cap Ca- marat Square Chronograph declares its neo-vintage aesthetic via its case (40.50 mm x 40.50 mm). It is crafted from stainless steel, and its square shape with rounded corners is accentuated by a vertical brushed fin- ish alternated with polished facets. The bezel, punctuated with six dec- orative screws, underscores the ge- ometry of the ensemble, right down to the push-pieces: positioned as an extension of the crown protection, they have been bevelled to the max- imum to blend in subtly with the ar- chitecture of the case.

The integrated bracelet, typical of the watchmaking norms of the period, merges seamlessly with the case, accentuating the model’s ro- bust character. This signature of the French brand features four brushed and polished links and comes com- plete with a double-folding clasp. It is extremely comfortable to wear thanks to its extreme suppleness while at the same time enhancing the charisma of the timepiece, wa- ter-resistant to 100 metres.

A TRIED AND TESTED MOVEMENT

Protected by a sapphire crystal, the blue dial with horizontal stamped pattern displays the chronograph function via three C-shaped count- ers. The 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock is discreet, while the 1/10th second counter at 12 o’clock and small seconds counter at 6 o’clock are flanked by a date aperture. More imposing in size, they visually extend the line introduced by the bracelet’s central link, while accentuating the model’s assertive character.

With their very ‘70s square format with white rounded edging, their contrast provides perfect readability of the data.

The flange in a matching shade presents a clearly laid-out minute track, punctuated by bevelled hour markers. Finished in the same style, the faceted rectangular hour and minute hands, partially coated with luminescent material, glide over the dial to the rhythm of a central sec- onds hand.

Highlighting traditional French watchmaking expertise passed down from father to son for three generations, HERBELIN’s racing-car of a watch is driven by a Swiss-made quartz movement (Ronda) select- ed for its proven reliability. It keeps time with an accuracy of 1/10th of a second, and boasts a battery life of 54 months.
