TAG HEUER AND FRAGMENT
A New Chapter in an Avant-Garde Collaboration
TAG Heuer and fragment continue their creative dialogue, returning to the TAG Heuer Carrera collection to refine its legacy through minimalist expression.
TAG Heuer and fragment return with their third collaboration, continuing a creative dialogue that first began in 2018. This time, the conversation takes shape through the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition timepiece, a clean, confident reimagining of the chronograph with the glassbox design, distilled through Hiroshi Fujiwara’s unmistakable design code.
Known globally as a cultural innovator and often referred to as the godfather of streetwear, Hiroshi Fujiwara with
his fragment brand brings more than influence to the table. He brings a collector’s eye, a designer’s discipline, and a deep personal connection to mechanical watches. The relationship between the two brands has grown out of mutual respect. Fragment, with its instinct for creating objects that resonate across creative worlds, and TAG Heuer, with its legacy of racing and precision.
Their first two joint timepieces quickly earned cult status. The response was clear, the intersection of Fujiwara’s aesthetic clarity and TAG Heuer’s craftsmanship had struck something real. Now, with this third release, the story returns to the TAG Heuer Carrera.
“This collaboration speaks to the essence of design that lasts” said Antoine Pin, CEO of TAG Heuer. “Hiroshi Fujiwara approaches a watch in the same way we approach our heritage, with precision, with innovation, and with full understanding that true identity does not need to be reinvented, only revealed. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition is the result of that shared understanding, and we are very excited to share it with our audience.”
“When I look at the TAG Heuer Carrera,
I see shapes and stories ready to be designed and expressed. My role with this new release was to listen to its structure and make decisions that protect its balance. Every detail has to earn its place. Nothing is added unless it has a reason to exist.” Said Hiroshi Fujiwara, founder and creative director of fragment.
A Legacy Reinterpreted
The TAG Heuer Carrera is one of the key foundations of the brand’s design heritage, first introduced in 1963 by Jack Heuer as a chronograph built specifically for drivers, highly precise and legible. Named after the Carrera Panamericana, one of the most thrilling races in motorsport history, it quickly became a symbol of refined style and technical excellence within high-speed environments.
Across decades, the TAG Heuer Carrera evolved while staying true to its original intention. In recent years, the chronograph with glassbox design has brought a new sense of dimension to the TAG Heuer Carrera line. Its distinctive construction features a curved flange, a contrasting white outer flange, and a black-on-black dial, complemented by a personalized date disc showcasing the fragment logo on the 1 and 11 numbers that perfectly echo fragment’s iconic lightning bolt symbol. This innovative design retains the spirit of the 1960s while using modern materials and proportions to enhance clarity, depth and visual impact on the dial.
This context is essential in understanding why Hiroshi Fujiwara was drawn to the TAG Heuer Carrera in the first place. His fascination with watches is well known, but his relationship with TAG Heuer is personal, built on shared values of precision, subtle disruption, and purpose-driven design.
The first collaboration with fragment in 2018 took on the TAG Heuer Carrera directly, introducing a bold, stripped-back execution that redefined what the model could look like in a contemporary context. In 2020, the partnership turned to the TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection, offering a more graphic, high-contrast statement. Both introduced Fujiwara’s distinctive black-and-white palette, and both became immediate collector objects.
Now, with the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition, the collaboration returns to the original platform. But this time, it enters the chronograph with glassbox design era.
Deliberate Contrast, Absolute Clarity
The third chapter of this collaboration gives light to the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition. The new 39 millimeters case captivates with its striking black and white contrast, a signature reinterpretation of Hiroshi Fujiwara’s design vision through the glassbox construction. Iconic design codes, including the fragment lightning bolt, are subtly integrated into the dial, lending a distinctive personality to the timepiece. Crafted in steel with alternating finishes, the domed sapphire glassbox crystal frames a black opalin dial that absorbs light softly, creating a smooth, visual texture. A white curved flange introduces disciplined contrast, while all markings across the dial, subdials and flange are finished in silver to maintain cohesion.
The chronograph hands are rhodium-plated. The tachymeter scale has been tuned as well, using a lighter grey on the bezel, another design direction by Fujiwara.
The bracelet is a return to form. TAG Heuer’s “beads-of-rice” seven row design, reintroduced earlier this year, is reworked with black PVD on the central links to echo the contrasted look onto the bracelet.
This timepiece is powered by the in-house TH20-00 movement, with an impressive 80-hour power reserve and benefitting from a 5-year extended warranty. What truly sets this TAG Heuer Carrera apart is the personalization of its movement: an oscillating weight, shaped like a shield and detailed with black graphic, reinterprets the TAG Heuer emblem in Fujiwara’s visual language. The fragment logo is also printed directly on the sapphire crystal, adding a signature design touch. Engineered for performance, the movement architecture features
a column wheel and vertical clutch for smooth chronograph operation, while the bidirectional automatic rewinding system ensures efficient energy flow.
Around the caseback edge, the engraved Victory Wreath references the golden age of Formula 1®. Inspired by Jack Heuer’s tradition of gifting gold watches that were seen as lucky charms to talented, victorious drivers, the Victory Wreath engraving became a symbol of that success.
The packaging was developed to reflect the timepiece’s design ethos. Both the TAG Heuer and fragment logos are prominently featured, presented in contrasting black and white. The timepiece comes in a sleek black box and is accompanied by an embossed black pouch, combining elegance and brand signature in every detail.
A Collector’s Object
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x fragment Limited Edition will be produced in 500 individually numbered units, resulting of a genuine exchange between two cultures, Swiss watchmaking and Japanese creative pulse.
