2009 – Chaumet reinvents the codes of its first Dandy* dress watch in a new edition: a combination of discreet elegance and couture details, echoing the dandy spirit yet free of nostalgia, resolutely design, minimalist and avant-garde.
Definitively “Arty”…
The cushion-shaped case, the collection’s signature, is emphasised by a black sapphire crystal with subtle midnight blue reflections. Asymmetry is radicalised with an automatic mechanical movement that serves the aethetics: the two counters are juxtaposed, providing an innovative way of reading the time from left to right. The tuxedo-style strap features a daring combination of patent leather and satin.
Variations on a theme of black…
The different shades of black harmonise in the score of bayadère stripes, playing with the contrast of matt and shiny textures.
The case
The stainless steel case, 40 mm in diameter, has the usual proportions and straight lines of Dandy. A precise line with a crown at 12 o’clock evokes the winder on pocket watches. The two juxtaposed counters propose a horizontal time-reading: one for hours and minutes, the other for seconds.
The couture patent leather strap imitates a tuxedo, with bayadère stripes etched in tone-on-tone on the dial, in perfect continuation from the strap.
The movement
The automatic winding mechanical movement was developed exclusively for Chaumet with a renowned Geneva-based workshop. The CP12V-V calibre provides an off-centred display of the hours, minutes and seconds.
Subtle details…
The guilloché bayadère stripes, which cross the dial in a stylised manner, are reproduced on the plate of the automatic calibre and on the crystal back of the case. The “circle in a cushion” motif covers the oscillating weight, visible through the transparent crystal back of the case.
