DESCRIPTION

  • RADIOMIR EGIZIANO 60 MM, TITANIUM

Officine Panerai brings back to life a legendary model from its history: the Egiziano (Egyptian), a model developed by the Florentine company in the second half of the 1950s and supplied to the underwater raid units of the Egyptian Navy in response to its request for an “indestructible watch”. A special model, originally produced in just a few dozen units and currently almost unobtainable on the vintage watch market.

With the same exceptional aesthetic impact and powered by an exclusive handmade movement with features faithfully following those of its progenitor, the new Radiomir Egiziano 60 mm, Titanium undoubtedly represents one of the finest examples of the grand tradition and legacy of Officine Panerai within the specialist underwater watch sector.

The round case, which measures 60 mm in diameter, links up with large rounded lugs and is made in brushed titanium: this has allowed for a remarkable reduction in the total weight of its powerful body. Its full back plate, attached by six screws like the original, is engraved with the inscription Officine Panerai Firenze and a “pig” - as the human torpedo deployed in the exploits of the Italian underwater raiding units during the Second World War was known - as well as the model identification number and serial number.

Waterproof up to 100 metres, the case – in addition to its distinctive levered bridge device to protect the crown, also in brushed titanium – features a wide, convex, bi-directional rotating bezel with embossed index markers, like the original Fifties model. The main index markers are positioned at each of the four cardinal points, with one formed by a transparent, luminous cap, while the others bear the numerical index markers 15, 30 and 45 in red. A knurled rim facilitates rotation, and the bezel encloses a Plexiglass® glass.

The dial is in the more classic Officine Panerai style: a black sandwich dial with Arabic numbers and hour markers perforated into the upper plate, while the lower plate is coated with an ecru colour luminous material – Radiomir in the original, as was written on the dial - as are the hands. The sub seconds dial is located at 9.00, like the historical model. Unlike the original, however, this Egyptian comes with a seconds reset device which returns the seconds hand to zero when the winding crown is pulled out, thus allowing the watch to be set accurately. On the other side, at 3.00, is a subdial identical to that in the vintage models, containing both the power reserve indicator as well as a reference to the patent obtained by Officine Panerai for its innovative crown protection device.

The movement of the new Egyptian is P. 2002/7 calibre, entirely developed and constructed by Officine Panerai to replace the historic Angelus calibre movement of the original. Hand wound and with a diameter equivalent to 13 ¾ lignes, the movement is composed of 191 parts and has three spring barrels to ensure a power reserve lasting 8 days.

With the identification number PAM 00341, the Radiomir Egiziano 60 mm undoubtedly represents one of the most significant and historic reeditions of famous vintage models ever made.

Made in a special limited edition of just 500 units, this watch comes with a leather strap of the same dimensions as the original, stitched to a large trapezoidal buckle, also in brushed titanium and personalised with the engraved inscription GPF (Giovanni Panerai & Figli – the same inscription used at the time). An extra strap is also included, slightly smaller in size, as well as a small tool for carrying out the replacement.
