DESCRIPTION

  • The Manufacture Dubey & Schaldenbrand in La Chaux-de-Fonds asserts its faith in mechanical watchmaking

65 years on, it is getting off to a fresh start. After a transition year following the takeover in 2009 by its new owner, Mr. Jonatan Gil, a native of La Chaux-de-Fonds, the brand is pursuing its return to centre-stage with a new collection featuring a resolutely modern design and based on traditional horological values.

Within a few weeks, the premises of the new Manufacture Dubey & Schaldenbrand will be completed and will thus give a new lease on life to the watchmaking know-how of company founder Georges Dubey. Established in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1946, the brand has been one of the jewels in the crown of the Swiss watch industry and distinguished itself in 2004 by becoming the first Swiss watch brand to receive the "Merit for Development of Watchmaking Tradition", a prize awarded by the prestigious International Institute of Promotion and Prestige.

Dubey & Schaldenbrand introduced several worldwide patents and innovations such as the mobile index and its split-seconds hand which significantly contributed to the brand’s reputation.

A new breeze is thus blowing across this prestigious name, with the creation of a new collection grafted onto the brand's DNA and its prestigious former ambassador, and which has now been reintroduced by the "artisans of time" of the Manufacture.

The latter have devoted the same care and horological expertise, while adding a modern design touch to the various liens.

Careful observers will note the excellence of these revisited historical movements, hand-engraved – a Dubey & Schaldenbrand speciality – and featuring genuine complications including proprietary tourbillons that will be enriching the range of high-end timepieces within a few weeks. One-of-a-kind "Collector’s pieces" will round out the line of products stemming from the Dubey & Schaldenbrand "museum" and which have remained truly timeless and are issued in limited numbered series. A tourbillon model set with 65 diamonds, limited edition, will be previewed in Baselworld 2011 as a celebration of the brand history.

The process of realigning brand distribution and deploying the new philosophy and strategy on the international market is under way. This year, emerging markets and China in particular will be the keystone of the brand’s positioning and of its approach to an audience composed of connoisseurs of exceptional timepieces.

The brand's international launch will take place in October 2011 in Shanghai, in an event attended by the international press. The Swiss market is of course an integral and high-priority part of the re-emergence of Dubey & Schaldenbrand on the watch industry scene.

The brand will be represented through a deliberately limited number of prestigious points of sale, focusing on quality rather than quantity and aiming for long-term partnerships ensuring top-class quality and after-sales service to end customers who are looking for watches bearing the 100% Swiss made label.
