Montblanc Expands Its Iced Sea Collection with a New Size
A smaller 38mm case size, new glacier pattern dial colours and 0 Oxygen technology come together in Montblanc’s latest Iced Sea Automatic Date models.
A New 38mm Diameter
The Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date collection, launched in 2022, caught the watch world’s attention with its sporty design and dials inspired by glacial ice from the Mer de Glace on the Mont-Blanc Massif. Enriching the collection, Montblanc unveils four new models in a smaller 38mm case. Previously available in a 41mm diameter, this reduced case size is suitable for both men and women looking for smaller diameters.
Glacier Dials
Inaugurating this new case size, Montblanc is unveiling two new glacier pattern dial colours in white and light blue. All of the Montblanc Iced Sea dials feature a glacier pattern that replicates the colour and texture of ice. The pattern is created using a special technique called gratté-boisé as the base, giving the dial the impression of genuine depth and luminosity. This time-consuming process takes four times longer than a standard dial to complete and requires over 30 separate steps. The result captures the texture of glacial ice with its interlocking network of crystals that have been frozen in time for millennia.
Surprising as it may seem, this is the first time a Montblanc Iced Sea model has been created in a pure white colour. The light blue version is also a new tone in the collection and comes adorned with a sfumato effect. This smoky aesthetic comes from an Italian technique where the tones and colours gradually merge into each other, producing softened outlines and hazy forms.
Zero Oxygen Technology
New features are also introduced on the technological side, with the Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date now featuring 0 Oxygen technology that provides several benefits for explorers who need their timekeeping equipment to work in some of the world’s harshest environments. Zero Oxygen inside the case not only eliminates fogging, which can occur with drastic temperature changes, but also prevents oxidization. Without oxygen, all the components last longer and will provide continued precision over time. Each timepiece comes with a certificate as proof of this special, yet invisible, technology and guarantees the successful sealing without oxygen.
Existing Iced Sea Owners
Montblanc’s 0 Oxygen technology will now be integrated into all new Montblanc Iced Sea models starting in April 2025. Owners of previous Montblanc Iced Sea editions will be able to arrange a 0 Oxygen upgrade either by sending their watch directly to a Richemont center, or by returning the watch to a Montblanc boutique, both of which will take care of the necessary follow-up via a Richemont platform.

Key Iced Sea Highlights
As with previous editions, these four new Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date models are certified as divers’ watches with the ISO standard 6425. They come with unidirectional rotatable bezels which match the colour of the dial and indicate diving time. The white versions are fitted with a bezel with a white ceramic insert, while the two-toned blue versions are crafted using anodized aluminium inserts. All dials come with white luminescent hands, indexes and a dot at 12 o’clock on the bezel and feature Montblanc’s Iced Sea logo on the dial. A 3D engraving on the caseback features a scuba diver and an iceberg. This engraving was created by structuring the metal to generate both matte and polished finishes, bringing contrast and life to the image.
The timepieces come with the choice of a stainless steel tapered bracelet or a matching-coloured rubber strap, both of which are easily interchangeable and have a fine adjustment system. The rubber straps have been newly redesigned to include a 3D glacier pattern on the inside to improve breathability and comfort on the wrist.
Ready for Action
These Montblanc Iced Sea Automatic Date timepieces are powered by Montblanc’s MB 24.17 automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve and indicate the hours, minutes, seconds, and date at three o’clock. For optimal performance in a sporty environment, each timepiece has undergone the Montblanc Laboratory Test to ensure shock, magnetic, temperature, and water resistance (approx. 30 bar) and that their fasteners are reinforced for enhanced security.
