DESCRIPTION

  • The Longines Sport Collection: new additions in 2009

New creations have been added to the Longines Sport Collection, the Swiss watch brand known by its winged hourglass logo. The Admiral and GrandeVitesse lines have been expanded to include four new models. Ceramic versions of the 24-hour model with a second time-zone and the chronograph model have been added to the Admiral range. Moreover, a special model which combines the two functions has been created for each line. Launched in 2008, Longines Admiral – with its sleek but robust silhouette – is a perfect example of Longines’ innate ability to marry elegance and performance. The GrandeVitesse line embodies the concept of high speed through a series of models that pay tribute to the memory of the fastest men in history. With their fluid lines, aerodynamic curves and double tachymeter they are bound to catch the eye of today’s daring sportsmen who love high speed.

    Longines Admiral

Longines’ Admiral line recalls the prestigious dimension of sports where beauty, precision and elegance are of the utmost importance. It boasts an air of self-confidence that will be appreciated especially by globetrotters as well as people with an adventurous streak.

Three new creations have been added to the Longines Admiral collection. Firstly, a model with a 24-hour graduation scale and a second time-zone, which has a ceramic bezel in black or grey. The robust and yet elegant steel case houses a self-winding mechanical movement, while the sapphire glass protects a black or grey dial with a predominant “12” – the design symbol of Longines’ sport collections. The bright red 24-hour hand immediately attracts the eye and contrasts with the moon-like reflections from the dials. Models in this range are available on a steel bracelet with central links in black or grey ceramic to match the bezel.

Ceramic is used in a similar way to embellish the Chronograph model in this line. In this case, however, the ceramic bezel features a tachymeter. As in all the models in the range, the case has a screw-in back cover. Another safety feature is the lateral protection for the crown and the push-pieces. The chronograph model is fitted with a self-winding mechanical movement. The black or grey dial includes a date aperture at 6 o’clock, 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock as well as the characteristic “large 12”. As in the case of the Longines Admiral 24h, the central links of the bracelet are in ceramic.

Those who prefer a simplistic sports design and are looking for a timepiece that is at the same time accurate and robust will choose the Longines Admiral Chronograph 24h with a second time-zone, the combination of these two functions being a special treat for connoisseurs! Longines has used the self-winding calibre L686 for the first time in this model. The chronograph functions include a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. The black, anthracite or silvered dial features a “large 12”, eight applied hour markers and 24-hour graduations in Arabic numerals. The models in this range are available on a steel bracelet or a black or brown alligator strap, naturally with a triple folding safety clasp.

    L3.670.4.76.6

The Admiral series evokes the prestigious dimension of sport in which the aesthetics, precision and beauty of the action excel. This Chronograph 24h (second time zone) model is fitted with the L686 automatic selfwinding mechanical movement, producing 28,800 alternations per hour and offering a power reserve of 46 hours. Its chronograph mechanism has a central seconds dial, 30 minutes counter at 12 o’clock and a 12 hours counter at 6 o'clock. The silvered dial shows the date, hour, minutes and the seconds counter at 9 o'clock. It also features an additional hours hand which can be used together with the 24-hour scale. Moreover it is embellished with a “big 12" and superluminova luminescent applied hour-markers. This model has a case in stainless steel with screwed back as well as a stainless steel bezel indicating the tachymeter. The screwed crown and push-pieces are sheltered by a protective shoulder. Stainless steel bracelet with triple security deployment buckle. Water-resistant to 100 meters.
