A new L.U.C Time Traveler One
An advanced material and intuitive world time display for the modern explorer
Chopard enriches its L.U.C collection with the arrival of a new L.U.C Time Traveler One, unveiled in concert with the 30th anniversary of Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier. It offers a contemporary interpretation of the Maison’s worldtimer, launched to wide acclaim in 2016. Crafted in state-of-the-art ceramised titanium and distinguished by a highly legible dial, this limited edition of 250 pieces combines modern elegance with robust performance, reaffirming Chopard’s expertise in Fine Watchmaking.
As its name suggests, the L.U.C Time Traveler One is made for globetrotters. Its world time function enables the wearer to read the prevailing time in any of 24 cities around the world with intuitive ease. Displayed via concentrically arranged discs, the information is presented with the clarity and refinement characteristic of the L.U.C collection. A crown at 2 o’clock adjusts the local time, while a second crown at 4 o’clock sets the city disc. Once aligned with the local time zone at 12 o’clock, the watch displays all global times simultaneously. Overall, the khaki-coloured dial brings a sense of rugged elegance to the composition. Inspired by exploration and military heritage, its refined chromatic palette offers a distinctive alternative to traditional black, blue or silver colours that Chopard has presented on its worldtimers until now. Beige accents, a vertical satin-brushed décor and luminescent details enhance legibility. A lacquered yellow seconds hand adds a bold finishing touch. The ensemble is completed by a khaki-green rubber strap with black rubber lining and a ceramised titanium pin buckle engraved with the L.U.C logo.
Beyond the intricacies of its dial, the case itself reinforces this contemporary character. Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the timepiece has a powerful presence while maintaining exceptional lightness and comfort thanks to its ceramised titanium construction. This advanced material combines the unbreakable resilience and feather-light properties of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic. Produced through an electroplasma oxidation process at extremely high temperatures, ceramised titanium achieves hardness ratings up to 1000 Vickers, dramatically exceeding standard Grade 5 titanium. Its permanently adhered ceramic surface ensures resistance to wear, impact and corrosion, along with a deep matte anthracite tone.
This timekeeper is powered by the L.U.C 01.05-L movement, an in‑house calibre. Beating at 4 Hz, equipped with a 60-hour power reserve and visible through a lightly tinted sapphire crystal case-back, it showcases the meticulous hand-finishing, including chamfered bridges and Côtes de Genève decoration. Like all L.U.C timepieces with a seconds indication, it is certified as a chronometer by the COSC, testifying to its exceptional precision.
This edition carries meaning for Chopard’s Co‑President, Karl‑Friedrich Scheufele, who reflected: “Having introduced worldtimers for both the 20th and 25th anniversaries of Chopard Manufacture Fleurier, it feels fitting to present this new interpretation as we mark thirty years. The L.U.C Time Traveler One reflects our belief that enduring watchmaking demands a spirit of adventure.”
30 years of Chopard Manufacture Fleurier
Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier was founded in 1996 at the initiative of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele (Co-President of Chopard), with the aim of preserving traditional Swiss watchmaking know-how while integrating major innovations. Thanks to this process of vertical integration, the workshops maintain a high level of finishing and contribute to the preservation of artistic crafts and skills.
L.U.C collection
The L.U.C collection pays tribute to Louis-Ulysse Chopard: by adopting the initials of the founder of Chopard’s first workshops in 1860, it is rooted in a heritage of tradition and innovation. Chopard Manufacture’s first calibre, the L.U.C 96.01-L, marked the debut of the collection in 1996. The following year, this ultra-thin automatic movement with a micro-rotor powered the first L.U.C timepiece: the L.U.C 1860 model, named ‘Watch of the Year’ by the Swiss magazine Montres Passion/Uhrenwelt.
Since that first calibre, all L.U.C movements have been designed, developed, and produced by Chopard Manufacture. The collection has expanded with innovative timepieces and today offers all the major complications in watchmaking. It upholds the values of certified watchmaking, combining high precision with the finest degree of hand finishing.
The Grand Prix d’Horlogerieco de Genève acknowledged the excellence of the collection by awarding its most prestigious distinction, the Aiguille d’Or, to the L.U.C Full Strike minute repeater in 2017. As Chopard Manufacture Fleurier celebrates its 30th anniversary, the collection goes even further with the L.U.C Grand Strike – a grande sonnerie watch — that is its most complex timepiece ever produced.
The L.U.C travel watches
Since 2016, Chopard has distinguished itself in the realm of multi‑time‑zone watchmaking through a family of L.U.C timepieces designed for discerning travellers. The L.U.C Time Traveler One inaugurated this lineage as the Maison’s first worldtimer, displaying all 24 time zones simultaneously via concentric dial layers driven by the in‑house, Chronometer‑certified L.U.C 01.05‑L calibre. Its dual‑crown architecture — one dedicated to local time, the other to the city disc — lends both intuitive functionality and a refined aesthetic that has become a signature of Chopard’s world‑time creations.
That same year, the L.U.C GMT One expanded the collection with an elegant dual‑time display powered by the integrated L.U.C 01.10‑L calibre, enabling immediate adjustment between home and local time with exemplary clarity. It embodies a modern travel companion marked by meticulous finishes and balanced proportions.
Together, these models form a coherent repertoire of travel‑ready L.U.C watches, each reaffirming Chopard Manufacture’s commitment to Haute Horlogerie, mechanical excellence and the needs of those who navigate multiple time zones with elegance and precision.
Chronometer certification
The Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) independently certifies the precision of movements. Uncased movements undergo 15 days of testing in five positions and at three temperature ranges. All L.U.C movements featuring a seconds indication are subjected to this protocol, ensuring a daily rate variation between –4 and +6 seconds per day.
Titanium expertise
Chopard Manufacture uses only Grade 5 titanium, the highest‑performing grade available for this metal, thanks to its combination of strength and lightness. Its remarkable hardness makes it significantly more difficult to machine than most other materials, demanding specialised equipment and exceptional precision. Working with such a demanding alloy highlights the Manufacture’s technical breadth and the level of savoir‑faire required to craft each titanium component to Chopard’s exacting standards.
