DESCRIPTION

  • LUMINOR CRONOGRAPH 40 MM

The Luminor of Officine Panerai’, one of the most famous divers’ watches in the world, has undergone a “little” revolution in this model which is part of the Contemporary Collection. The case has been reduced in diameter to enable the watch to be worn comfortably by women and those with small wrists. From the 47 and 44 mm diameter of the classic models, it has been changed to 40 mm: a “smaller” case, then, but only to a certain extent, because not only are its dimensions still important; above all it has maintained the aesthetic characteristics, the proportions and the performance which have made the Luminor a great classic top-of-the-range sports watch. With automatic winding and water-resistant to 100 metres, the Luminor Chronograph 40 mm is a chronograph model which also has a chronometer certificate testifying to the accuracy of its timekeeping, very important among those of the latest generation.

The case, created in stainless steel, has the same form that distinguishes all the Luminor watches and it is recognisable immediately by the large lever device protecting the winding crown. This device, which Panerai patented more than half a century ago, ensures that the crown is perfectly water-resistant; when the lever is moved downwards the crown is pressed against the caseband, thus preventing any infiltration: but when the lever is raised, the crown is free to be moved, enabling the time to be set. With the back secured by screws, the Luminor Chronograph 40 mm is water-resistant to a depth of 100 metres and the case is finished in two ways: the bezel is mirror-polished while the caseband, the bridge of the lever device and the chronograph push-pieces, inserted obliquely in the caseband, are satin-finished, thus creating a sophisticated effect of contrast and depth between the different surfaces.

The dial has a traditional black background against which the two large strongly luminous Arabic numerals stand out very prominently, as do the hour markers, which are accompanied by small Arabic numerals for reference. Also luminous, from a graphic pointof view the hour markers form a perfect visual complement to the hour and minute hands, while the central chronograph hand has at its point, a small leaf-shaped luminous element, like the little hands of the two subsidiary dials. These dials are, respectively, thecontinuous small seconds dial (at 9 o’clock) and the minute counter (at 3 o’clock) whichrecords the time that has elapsed since the start of the chronograph measurement.

The Luminor Chronograph 40 mm uses the Panerai calibre OP XII, an automatic winding movement 13¼ lignes in diameter, with 27 jewels and a power reserve of 46hours. With polished bridges and Côtes de Genève decoration, the oscillating weight ispersonalised Panerai and the Glucydur balance makes 28,800 alternations per hour. By virtue of the accuracy of manufacture of the movement and the quality of its components, the watch is supplied with the official chronometer certificate of C.O.S.C. (the official Swiss establishment which certifies the accuracy of a watch’s operation over a period of 15 daysof tests).

Identified by the reference PAM00310, the Luminor Chronograph 40 mm is supplied with an alligator strap closed by an adjustable buckle in brushed steel, as well as the specialtool for easily replacing the strap itself.
