Reimagining an icon

The Big Crown Pointer Date has been a constant in our collection since 1938. It’s an icon of Swiss watchmaking and one of the world’s most recognisable watch designs. Today, we’re excited to introduce a fresh take on the form with a 29.00 mm case. This smaller, more decorative size is intended to appeal to those with smaller wrists while protecting the codes of the original design. The Big Crown Pointer Date fundamentals remain in place: the fluted bezel and oversized crown, as well as the central hand indicating the date against a scale running around the outer edge of the dial. Each element has been carefully considered to be more delicate and more elegant. The crown is tapered for comfort and to be more visually ornate; the tip of the pointer hand has been reduced and harmonised to match all four hands (where typically it’s in a contrasting colour); and the date scale is a softer mix of dots and Arabic numerals. Then we’ve skeletonised the hour and minute hands to create a more sophisticated look, and added two dial finishes, with a sunburst central section and a grained outer. Add in an automatic Swiss Made mechanical movement and you have the most elegant expression of the Big Crown Pointer Date we’ve ever imagined.
