DESCRIPTION

  • Rescue mission

Oris breathes new life into its partnership with Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service is one of the world’s most iconic aeromedical services. Oris first worked with the non-profit organisation in 2013, and this year the two come together again in a second limited edition watch, the Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides emergency and primary healthcare services to people living in rural areas of Australia. It operates a fleet of more than 60 aircraft from bases around the country, including the Swiss Pilatus PC-12. It will shortly add long-range Pilatus PC-24 jets to its fleet.

Like the first limited edition watch, the new model features a pulsometer, used to take a patient’s pulse. Oris has upgraded the pulsometer on the new watch, scaling it over 20 heartbeats for even faster readings. The watch’s bi-directional rotating bezel means measurement can start at any time.

The Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II is based on Oris’s legendary Big Crown collection. A pilot’s watch should be reliable and easy to read, hence the new watch’s oversized 45mm stainless steel case, black dial and clear Super LumiNova® numerals and hands.

The pulsometer scale is in a contrasting deep orange, not only a colour the eye picks up quickly, but also a reference to the earth in Australia’s Outback where much of the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s work takes place. The watch’s bi rotating bezel can also be used as a timer or a second time zone.

The watch has a number of touches to reflect the close relationship between Oris and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The organisation’s logo appears on the dial ring at 12 o’clock and is also embossed on the case back. The watch is presented in a luxurious wooden presentation case that comes with a medal bearing the logo.

The Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II will be limited to 2,000 pieces and will retail for CHF 1,900 on a leather strap and CHF 2,100 on a stainless steel bracelet or crocodile leather strap. Oris will make a donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Oris Chairman Ulrich W. Herzog commented: ‘We’re so proud to be working with the Royal Flying Doctor Service again and to be supporting the invaluable work the organisation does to bring medical relief to remote parts of Australia. We’re confident the Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II will prove a useful tool to doctors as they care for patients.’

Scott Chapman, Chief Executive of the Royal Flying Doctor Service said: ‘Our great thanks to Oris for their continued support of our work. As a non-profit, our service relies heavily on the help and generosity of our supporters. Oris’s contributions have made a huge difference to our work in the past, and will do again. There’s no doubt that sales of this new watch will help RFDS save lives.’
