THE OYSTER PERPETUAL
Crowning the essential
In 2026, Rolex has chosen the Oyster Perpetual to symbolize the celebration of 100 years of the Oyster. A tribute to the very essence of time, this watch embodies the connection between past accomplishments and future realizations.
To mark the centenary of the Oyster, the first waterproof wristwatch produced by Rolex, the brand is enhancing its Oyster Perpetual range with striking and unexpected ver- sions. Watches in a yellow Rolesor variant, with a restyled Jubilee motif, or fashioned in 18 ct gold – all pay homage in their own way to the original Rolex watch, unveiled in 1926, and all embody the unique spirit of innovation, daring and inventiveness at the heart of the brand.
Yellow Rolesor, which combines Oystersteel and yellow gold on a single Rolex watch, enters the current Oyster Perpetual range. This signature aesthetic is adopted on an Oyster Perpetual 41.
The Jubilee motif takes on a completely new look in a dial decor bursting with colour. Reimagined in both design and execution, this pattern, which has embellished the dial of various Rolex watches in the past, brings a rejuvenated expression of the brand’s dial-making heritage to an Oyster Perpetual 36.
The most acclaimed precious metal is celebrated by the Oyster Perpetual 28 and the Oyster Perpetual 34, which are clad in 18 ct yellow or Everose gold. These precious versions also feature new dials.
The Oyster Perpetual 41 and Oyster Perpetual 36 are equipped with calibre 3230, while the Oyster Perpetual 28 and Oyster Perpetual 34 are fitted with calibre 2232. These two movements at the forefront of watchmaking technology provide essential functions – hours, minutes and seconds.
Like all Rolex watches, these Oyster Perpetual models carry the Superlative Chronometer certification, with strengthened criteria since 2026, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist.
The echo of origins
The Oyster Perpetual 41 in a yellow Rolesor version reinterprets this aesthetic of a two-material combination by pairing a bezel and winding crown in yellow gold with a bracelet entirely in Oystersteel – the bracelet’s centre links are made from the same metal as the outer links and the middle case, whereas typically they would be in yellow gold.
This watch also includes a number of details evoking the Oyster’s centenary. The winding crown features the number 100 in relief. On the slate dial, the inscription ‘100 years’ appears at 6 o’clock in place of the usual ‘Swiss Made’ marking. Moreover, each five-minute interval on the minute track is denoted by a green square, and the name ‘Rolex’ is pad printed in the same green, the brand’s emblematic colour.
This Oyster Perpetual 41 exemplifies the strengthened Superlative Chronometer certification implemented in 2026 which illustrates Rolex’s steadfast pursuit of excellence.
Letters of nobility
Crafted in Oystersteel, the material customarily used in the current Oyster Perpetual range, the new version of the Oyster Perpetual 36 is notable for its dial decorated with a highly graphic and colourful Jubilee motif.
This dial offers a subtle yet thoroughly modern reinterpre- tation of the Jubilee motif introduced at the end of the 1970s, which became iconic. It displays the letters of the name ‘Rolex’ in a contrasting interplay of no fewer than ten colours. Executing this pattern presents a sizeable challenge, for the colours are applied not all at once, but one after the other. The utmost precision is also required to ensure that all the shapes and letters making up the motif are positioned perfectly, resulting in a dial that exudes panache.
A new golden age
Playful and precious, the 18 ct gold versions of the Oyster Perpetual 28 and Oyster Perpetual 34 are notably offered in vari- ants with lacquer dials on which three of the hour markers – those at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock – are in natural stone, their upper surface with an ogive cut to highlight the stone’s structure and colour, and to prevent the slightest reflection.
One of the watches, an Oyster Perpetual 28 in 18 ct yellow gold, features a dial in a new shade – green stone – with three hour markers in heliotrope, a stone presenting a variety of green hues. By contrast, an Oyster Perpetual 34 in 18 ct Everose gold displays a blue stone dial – also a new colour – with three hour markers in dumortierite, a mineral characterized by intermittent patches of pale and deeper blues.
The case and bracelet on these watches are primarily satin finished. This aesthetic feature of models in the current Oyster Perpetual range lends their surfaces a softly textured sheen. It is the first time that the satin finish has been used on timepieces fashioned entirely in precious metal. The domed bezel, with its polished finish, gleams in all its splendour.
The essence of the Oyster
Watches in the Oyster Perpetual range are direct descendants of the original Oyster, the first waterproof wristwatch by Rolex, on which the brand has built its reputation since 1926. These time- pieces benefit from all the fundamental features of the Oyster Perpetual collection – chronometric precision, a waterproof Oyster case, and self-winding of the movement via a Perpetual rotor. Displaying hours, minutes and seconds, and featuring a sophisticated finish, they represent chronometer wristwatches in their purest form. Timeless in their essence, they are continually reinterpreted and have gradually been endowed with the brand’s technical innovations. The varied and constantly evolving colours and design of the dials ensure the Oyster Perpetual never loses its fresh and contemporary appeal.
The Oyster case, symbol of waterproofness
A paragon of robustness and elegance, the Oyster case of the Oyster Perpetual 41, Oyster Perpetual 36, Oyster Perpetual 34 and Oyster Perpetual 28, respectively 41 mm, 36 mm, 34 mm and 28 mm in diameter, is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). The middle case of the versions presented is crafted from a solid block of Oystersteel, 18 ct yellow gold or 18 ct Everose gold, and crowned with a domed bezel. Its case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool employed by approved watchmakers. The Twinlock winding crown, fitted with a double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case. The crystal is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire and benefits from an anti-reflective coating. The waterproof Oyster case provides optimal protection for the movement it houses.
Oyster bracelet
Watches in the current Oyster Perpetual range are fitted on an Oyster bracelet. Developed in the late 1930s, this three-piece link metal bracelet is known for its robustness.
On these timepieces, the Oyster bracelet is furnished with a folding Oysterclasp. It also includes the Easylink comfort extension link, created by Rolex, which allows the wearer to eas- ily adjust the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm. On the versions in 18 ct gold, the Oyster bracelet includes patented ceramic inserts – designed by Rolex – inside the links to help prevent premature wear and enhance its flexibility on the wrist.
Calibres 3230 and 2232
The Oyster Perpetual 41 and Oyster Perpetual 36 are equipped with calibre 3230; the Oyster Perpetual 34 and Oyster Perpetual 28 with calibre 2232 – movements entirely developed and manu- factured by Rolex. A distillation of technology, these self-winding mechanical movements deliver outstanding performance, par- ticularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability.
Calibre 3230 incorporates the patented Chronergy escape- ment, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorous, this escapement is resistant to strong magnetic fields. The movement is also fitted with a blue Parachrom hairspring. Manufactured in a paramagnetic alloy enabling it to withstand strong magnetic fields, this hair- spring offers great stability in the face of temperature variations as well as high resistance to shocks. It is equipped with a Rolex overcoil, ensuring the calibre’s regularity in any position.
Calibre 2232 is fitted with the Syloxi hairspring, produced by the brand and patented. This silicon hairspring has a patented geometry that ensures the calibre’s regularity in any position. The movement also contains a paramagnetic nickel-phosphorus escape wheel.
The oscillator of these two calibres is mounted on the Rolex- designed, high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, further enhancing the movements’ shock resistance.
Calibres 3230 and 2232 are equipped with a self-winding system via a Perpetual rotor. The first offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency. For the second, the power reserve extends to approximately 55 hours.
Superlative Chronometer certification
The Oyster Perpetual 41, Oyster Perpetual 36, Oyster Perpetual 34 and Oyster Perpetual 28 are covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification. This exclusive designation is issued to each watch leaving the Rolex workshops, attesting to its excellent performance on the wrist. This in-house certification is strictly con- trolled by internationally recognized, independent Swiss entities. In 2026, the Superlative Chronometer certification has been strengthened with the addition of three new testing criteria: resistance to magnetism, reliability and sustainability. These cri- teria are implemented throughout the design and manufacturing stages of each timepiece – hundreds of checks and validations directly related to the watch’s performance are carried out during these phases. They supplement the criteria established when the certification was redefined in 2015 governing precision, water- proofness, self-winding and power reserve. That year, Rolex set up an exclusive testing protocol for its finished watches, con- ducted inside the manufacture on fully automated equipment. The precision requirements are particularly stringent: measured after casing the movement, the watch’s accuracy must be between –2 and +2 seconds per day. The rate deviation tolerated by the brand for the precision of a finished watch is significantly smaller than that accepted for official certification of the movement alone. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
