DESCRIPTION

  • Grande Reverso, tall, slim and handsome: a certain masculine ideal.

The story of the iconic reversible watch first introduced in the 1930s has been written ever since in letters of all dimensions: from the exquisitely dainty to attractively medium-sized through to unequivocally large. At 48.5 x 30 mm for the new Grande Reverso 976 and 52 x 31.3 mm for the Grande Reverso 986 Duodate, the latest additions to this line are definitely at the upper end of the size spectrum, albeit distinctly slimmer and more comfortable than existing Grande Reverso models.

While featuring dials with a refined design and sophisticated finishing, they admirably express the very essence of the timeless Reverso charm in a generously proportioned format. As their ‘transparent’ names imply, both models are accurately and reliably driven by movements from the 970 generation offering all one would expect from a sturdy and precise ‘engine’ equipped with a variable inertia balance operating at a high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Both are firmly and elegantly secured to the wrist by an alligator strap complete with folding clasp. No frills, no fuss: just perfectly classic watches ideally sized to match men’s tastes as much as their anatomy, and also entirely in tune with the current trend towards the sheer simplicity of pure, clean lines.

    Grande Reverso 976

On this epitome of horological distinction, slender hour and minute hands glide around the elegantly understated dial, while the geometrical Art Deco-inspired appeal is further enhanced by a small seconds display forming a fourth rectangle nested within three others graced by distinctive finishes: an inner minute track zone guilloché-patterned with a Clous de Paris hobnail motif, an outer satin-brushed zone carrying classic transferred Arabic hour numerals; and the famous steel or pink gold case highlighted by the fluted pattern at top and bottom – just inviting the owner to swivel it and “turn his back on time”. The smoothly reliable working of the proprietary mechanical manually-wound Calibre 976 can be admired through the transparent sapphire crystal case-back.
