Tribute to the 125 th anniversary of Bulgari and its founder.
In the mid-19 th century, a timeless elegance was born with Sotirio Bulgari. He sensed the new spirit of his time and, assembling his formidable arsenal of artistic and artisanal skills, left Greece for Corfu and then went on to the recently unified Italy, land of the Grand Tour. Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, he was capable of overcoming challenges and conventions, continuously redefining the concepts of “avant-garde” and “luxury.” On the 125 th anniversary of its foundation, Bulgari dedicates a watch to this multicultural trailblazer, businessman and aesthete: a watch as extraordinary as him. The new Sotirio Bulgari features a classic style reinterpreted in a contemporary way. A perfect synthesis of innovative design and manufacturing “savoir-faire”; it is distinguished by its sophisticated workmanship and great attention to every detail. The new collection dedicated to this man is Bulgari’s new version of a formal watch, featuring manufacture movements, dials finished with exclusive treatments and a unique design for the case, whose bezel is distinguished by the absence of the Bulgari logo.

The Sotirio Bulgari Tourbillon Quantième Perpétuel is the most evident example of this achievement ; fully developed by Bulgari, the BVL 465 Caliber represents a unique fusion of functions: an automatic see through tourbillon and perpetual calendar with an innovative display that features double coaxial retrograde hands, offered in a limited edition of 30 pieces.
The Sotirio Bulgari Quantième Annuel model, equipped with the BVL 360 Caliber, a manufacture movement enriched by an annual calendar function with 225° retrograde date, available in a limited edition of 250 pieces with an 18 cts pink gold case or in 125 pieces for the version in white gold.
Another milestone is settled by the Sotirio Bulgari Date Rétrograde whose 150° retrograde module has been developed and produced by Bulgari.
The assortment is further enriched by a special timepiece developed to commemorate the 125 th Anniversary: a tribute to the founder that carries his signature on its flip-over back case studied to reveal the movement. This model is offered in three limited editions of 125 pieces each one, realised in pink gold, yellow gold and white gold and equipped with the BVL 250 Caliber with a manfacture movement personalised for Bulgari.
Tradition and manufacturing skills are expressed in the Sotirio Bulgari collection, in both technical and aesthetic terms. They give tribute to the firm’s founder, by featuring his signature.
The case
The Sotirio Bulgari watch is the archetype of the formality, reinterpreted in a contemporary key. It is a tribute not only to the founder but to the great Bulgari design tradition that has culminated in an innovative case from both the technical and aesthetic stand points.
In all the models in the Sotirio Bulgari line, the lugs are a signature feature. Integrated in to the back at converging angles, their unique construction gives them a high tensile strength despite the minimal contact area with the case, which in turn makes the double finish possible. This solution is owed in part to the Bulgari Group’s acquisition of Finger, a company that has been building watch case sof the highest quality since 1898.
Great attention has been devoted to even the minutest particulars , in terms of both manufacturing solutions and design. From the dis tinctive 45° pitch of the lugs to the “SB” monogram on the crown of every Sotirio Bulgari watch, every individual detail, whether visible or invisible, contributes to the final result.
The back case of all models is in sapphire crystal. The Anniversary editionh as the added touch of a hinged 18-carat gold back that opens to reveal a window into the watch works and into Bulgari’s long and tireless quest for perfection.
The dial and the buckle
The dials of all the Sotirio Bulgari watches are the result of a singular and rigorous design approach that combines classic formal elegance with contemporary aesthetic. This is immediately apparent in the hand-applied indexes and the large Roman numerals that refer back to the origins of Bulgari style while at the same time standing out boldly against the variety of surface treatments that distinguish the range of Sotirio Bulgari dials.
The multiplicity of levels creates a subtle optical effect that lures, then seduces the eye. The delicate play of embossed finishes and curvilinear geometry are in perfect harmony with the aesthetic purity for which the Bulgari brand is renowned.
Every detail has been designed and engineered in-house by Cadrans Design, a subsidiary of the Bulgari Group specialising in extremely high-quality watch dials.
The transparency of the sapphire crystal and the precision of the counters, hand-applied by Bulgari’s “cadraniers”, exemplify the complexity of the work manship involved, resulting in that rare kind of beauty that can only come from meticulous attention to even the most imperceptible of details. No less exceptional is the strap clasp, a variation on the classic ardillon buckle with a distinctive 45° cut.
