DESCRIPTION

  • JEANRICHARD launches the Aquascope by rethinking a historical model from the 1960s, thereby creating another link with its rich heritage. Equipped with the brand’s JR1000 in-house movement, the 300 metre water-resistant Aquascope unveils a new facet of JEANRICHARD’S creativity.

With roots dating back to watchmaking genius Daniel JeanRichard in 1681, JEANRICHARD has experienced several decisive milestones during its three centuries in existence. One of these important periods was in the 1960s, when the brand produced divers’ watches among other models. Today, JEANRICHARD unveils the Aquascope, a watch which harks back to that creative period.

With a round opening in a “tonneau” shape, the Aquascope reflects the spirit of the 1960s given that the period’s approach to aesthetics was the use of strong, unconventional geometrical shapes in art, fashion and design. Inspired by the design and proportions of the historical model, JEANRICHARD has brought a fresh and contemporary touch to the new version, especially through the curves of the case. The brand has kept the model’s original monobloc case which protects the two crowns with its edges and has designed distinctive facets on both sides of the case to round off its ergonomics. The structured calfskin chevron-patterned strap recalls the elements of the original watch.

In common with all the brand’s collections, the Aquascope is fitted with a JR1000 in-house movement, entirely developed and produced in its workshops. The Aquascope case is polished and satin-finished stainless steel, and features an external bidirectional rotating black bezel, similar to that of the 1960s watch. This bezel can be used to indicate a remaining dive time. To ensure accurate setting, the bezel is notched (120 teeth, i.e. a half-minute setting). To prevent ill-timed movements from an unexpected impact, JEANRICHARD has incorporated a safety system, which acts on a corrector located at the level of the 9 o’clock pusher. When the crown at 9 o’clock is screwed in, the bezel cannot move. The screw-down crown at 3 o’clock activates the hour and minute hands, as well as the date setting. The watch is water-resistant up to 300 metres.

The luminescent graduation of the Arabic numerals and indexes on the dial and on the marker on the bezel together ensure that the dive time can also be read accurately in the dark and in deep waters.
