Tambour éVolution Spin Time GMT

Fascinating from a mechanical point of view, the exclusive Spin Time movement patented in 2010 displays the time via rotating cubes. This first complication designed and assembled by the watchmakers from La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton is, by definition, dedicated to globetrotters. Staying in line with contemporary trends, Louis Vuitton – for whom travel lies at the heart of its inspiration – is this year presenting this captivating mechanism in the Tambour éVolution case, whose strong and simple lines are enhanced by “black MMC”, an innovative black material with incredibly durable and lightweight properties. This GMT watch with exemplary legibility and functionality is undoubtedly  an icon in the making.  

The Spin Time complication, developed and assembled by the master watchmakers from La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, boasts advanced technical features and clear legibility. 

It was only logical for it to be housed in the Tambour éVolution watch’s ultra-modern case. In this configuration, the dynamism of the GMT display, featuring on the dial in the form of twelve aluminium cubes with a fine satin finish, echoes the taut and flowing lines of the two-tone pink gold and “black MMC” case. 

Extremely useful when travelling, this unusually efficient way of reading the time proves to be extremely easy to adjust in practice. Developed and assembled by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the LV 111 calibre has been designed to be a model of simplicity and reliability under any circumstances. Acting like a jumping hour mechanism, the system wound by the automatic movement goes into action  every 60 minutes.  

It moves, in a flash and by a twelfth of a turn, a disc equipped with appendices. The latter act on the Maltese crosses riveted to the axes of the aluminium cubes, rotating two of the twelve cubes by a quarter turn. The first presents a satin-finish face whereas it previously displayed an arrow, and the other, whose cube face had a satin-finish a few moments beforehand, presents in a flash an arrow pointing outwards to indicate the hours from 01:00 to 12:59 or an arrow pointing inwards to display those from 13:00 to 00:59. 

Launched twelve years ago, the Tambour is developing with a new icon that aims to reflect current fashions and aspirations.  

The Tambour éVolution Spin Time GMT watch draws on strong codes and adopts a uniquely distinctive stylistic vocabulary to enrich its image without distorting it to achieve this balance.  

The combination of gold and “black MMC” gives this timepiece with a 45-mm diameter a distinguished architecture whose virility is accentuated by the presence of the V-shaped motif added at the crown, inspired by the famous “V” created in 1901 by Gaston Vuitton and affixed to his Steamer Bag.  

The Tambour watch’s case is complex to machine and, as it comprises seven distinct elements (“black MMC” case, 18-carat pink gold bezel, crown and horns), requires extreme care during the numerous assembly operations. Guaranteed to be watertight to 10 atmospheres, this benchmark piece features a winding crown. Easily grasped due to its carefully studied design, once pulled out to the second notch it serves to adjust the hour hand with full hour jumps. The distinguished Tambour éVolution Spin Time GMT is worn on the wrist with a bracelet topstitched in a red saddle stitch combining alligator with black calfskin and closed by an 18-carat pink gold pin buckle.   .
