- BREGUET CELEBRATES THE CENTENARY OF THE AERONAVALE
The French Naval Aeronautics, commonly called the Aéronavale, celebrates its hundredth anniversary in 2010, and wished to join to a prestigious partner and a historic supplier for this occasion. It is therefore naturally that it contacted the House of Breguet. Indeed, since the appointment of A.-L. Breguet as the Watchmaker of the french Royal Navy in 1815, Breguet always maintained narrow links with the Navy, getting for it any sorts of high-precision watches during these last two centuries. Breguet celebrates this anniversary this year through a sponsorship but also by launching a new Type XX chronograph in a limited edition to 1000 pieces.
The Aéronavale at the Museum of Navy
Nicolas G. Hayek responded enthusiastically to the demands of the Navy and chooses to register its support over time through a sustainable action. Through a sponsorship for the National Museum of Navy, Breguet allows the latter to devote a permanent space dedicated to the naval Aeronautics, which was not the case so far. In this space of 90 m2, visitors can discover through models of aircraft carriers and aircrafts, precision instruments and testimonies, the importance of air dimension in the Navy, since the precursors to the modern aircraft carriers. This room "Aéronavale", achieved through the support of Montres Breguet at the site of the Museum of Navy at Palais de Chaillot in Paris, will be inaugurated in the presence of many foreign delegations the 26th of October 2010 at the occasion of the Euronaval Show.
Breguet and the Aéronavale : Birth of a mythical Type XX 50 years ago
The collaboration between Breguet and the Aéronavale has left many memories for former pilots as well as for collectors, and each of them remembers the Breguet Type XX chronograph ordered by the Aéronavale in 1958 to 500 pieces, numbered from 1 to 500, and delivered in 1960, just fifty years ago. Featuring the "flyback" function as all Type XX, and identifiable to the typical reference "BREGUET MARINE NATIONALE AERONAUTIQUE NAVALE" engraved on its caseback, this Type XX model, which remained in service until early 1980, is now one of the most coveted.
Breguet never forgot this collaboration and with the release of the third generation of Type XX in 1995 (the 3800), the decision was made to baptize it simply "Aéronavale" in memory of this prestigious past .
A Type XX Aéronavale anniversary limited edition 3803ST
To mark the Centenary of the Aéronavale in horological terms this time, Breguet has chosen to edit a special Type XX model in limited edition and numbered to 1000 pieces. The uniqueness of this decision - numbered limited editions are very rare for Breguet - marks the attachment of the house to its shared history with "Sky Sailors." The piece has unique features for a Type XX model such as a black lacquered rotating bezel with figures in relief, and slightly bigger than the one of the 3800. An exclusive winding-crown and a special marking with the official emblem of Centenary of the Naval Aeronautics at the back of the case. Finally, this watch will be delivered with a special box and a limited edition certificate.
