DESCRIPTION

  • THE MANUFACTURE SPIRIT

Girard-Perregaux’s strength continues to be built on two fundamental principles: the desire for constant progress, which is behind numerous innovations and the respect for its heritage, rich in inspiration since 1791. By cultivating these two pillars, in a subtle blend favouring integration of the watchmaking crafts, the Haute Horlogerie Manufacture preserves its authenticity and solidity, while demonstrating its great creativity.

Haute Horlogerie, Vintage 1945, ww.tc, Girard-Perregaux 1966, Cat’s Eye: the Brand’s flagship collections are developed through new interpretations with unprecedented complications, with creative displays and with timeless allure. The creations dedicated to ladies vie in terms of delicacy, while the gentlemen’s models are rich in variety: the black ceramic ww.tc Shadow asserts a dynamic, technical style, while the classicism of the Vintage 1945 and Girard-Perregaux 1966 is enhanced by new concepts. Two sporty and elegant watches have again been born from the partnership with the Monte-Carlo Historic Rally.

True to its Manufacture strategy, Girard-Perregaux is continuing with the development of its constant force escapement, the Constant Escapement, and its unique portfolio of high-end movements, thereby consolidating one of the most complete collections there is in the world of watchmaking. In particular two annual calendars are being presented this year, one accompanied by the equation of time indication, the other combined with the display of the signs of the zodiac.

With nearly 80 filed patents, the Manufacture continues to reinvest a high proportion of its turnover in its Research & Development Centre, a genuine cornerstone of the business. It is reasserting its interest in pioneering techniques and materials, as shown in particular by the use of silicon or new technologies for certain movement components. It is consolidating its comprehensive approach, which enables it to design and produce both the external components of watches and their mechanisms. Girard-Perregaux makes in-house complete collections of movements: from Haute Horlogerie to high-end automatic winding mechanical to quartz.

The Manufacture integrates tens of different skills, from engineers to master watchmakers via dial enameller, from experts in movement decoration or to technicians in the case and wristlet manufacturing workshops. Brought together in La Chaux-de-Fonds, all these specialists are at the service of Girard-Perregaux watches, which are subject to painstaking care, and now reveal their latest secrets.

All of this has to happen while honouring the history of the Brand. The world-renown Museum is undergoing a major renovation effort and is due to reopen in the first half of 2009. In the meanwhile the already stunning collection has been augmented by newly acquired pieces dating from the second half of the 19th Century, attesting to the exceptional expertise Girard-Perregaux watchmakers have been displaying through the years. One of these magnificent pocket watches was a source of inspiration for a new Haute Horlogerie model: the Vintage 1945 Tourbillon with three gold Bridges. Brilliantly illustrating how the Brand reinterprets its past to design modern creations, this limited edition is aimed at connoisseurs, with codes common to all Girard-Perregaux’s new products for 2009: a design with highly developed details, making for elegance and comfort; a manufacture mechanism aiming for excellence; a rare item, born from the attention and passion of craftsmen fully mastering their disciplines; a watch conceived to generate strong emotions.

    CAT’S EYE HAUTE JOAILLERIE

Girard-Perregaux presents an exceptional combination between watchmaking expertise and fine jewellery: the remarkable Cat’s Eye Haute Joaillerie, entirely set with baguette diamonds.

The Haute Horlogerie Manufacture has chosen to exalt the feminine design of the Cat’s Eye with a seductive cloth of diamonds. The magical brilliance of the stones gives a dazzling shine to this sublime watch fashioned in white gold. Yielding brilliant reflections, this entirely set piece put to the test the skills of seasoned master craftsmen.

Retaining the curves and the geometry of the glamorous and award-winning Cat’s Eye collection, the diamond-setter has used 394 baguette diamonds (~52 carats) guaranteeing the perfect harmony of the whole. The fabulous gem-setting work concerns all the watch: 87 baguette diamonds adorn the case and the bezel, 98 the dial, 204 the bracelet, all the way to the star shaped crown set with 5 baguette diamonds.

It is a technical and artistic performance exploit. The stunning result represents more than 1,200 hours of painstaking work, following a long and precise process which involves more than 10 different workshops and requires extreme dexterity at each step. At first, the setting plan determines precisely the position and the dimensions of each stone on the piece. The characteristics of each stone are meticulously described. Selected among the purest stones, the diamonds are then baguetteshaped. Respecting the harmonious proportions of the Cat’s Eye, all the stones are set down. At this stage, the know-how of the jeweller makes the difference: the regularity and the precision of the setting are crucial for an ideal reflection of light and a perfect geometry. Once the entire piece is set, it is highlighted by a polisher who gives the watch its dazzling radiance.

This degree of sophistication demands excellence down to the last detail of the finishes, both aesthetically and technically. In keeping with the watchmaking codes expected from Girard-Perregaux, the Cat’s Eye Haute Joaillerie displays a small seconds and a power reserve indication, with delicate appliques fitted on the gems. The gold bracelet is integrated to the case to reinforce harmony while ensuring perfect comfort. True to its strategy to offer women seductive and technical watches rooted in Switzerland’s grandest watchmaking tradition, Girard-Perregaux has equipped this piece with the outstanding GP033R0 movement. The transparent case back gives an unobstructed view of this calibre, specially equipped with a gold rotor also set with 145 diamonds.
