  • Exceptional creativity expressed through Serpenti 2012, offering talented interpretations of the entire range of jewellery, goldsmithing and watchmaking crafts

Suppleness, a unique signature feature, the ultimate embodiment of goldsmithing skills: Serpenti by Bulgari has for decades been making an indelible imprint on the exclusive world of jewellery. Enamelled double-wrap coils, gemset pink gold, richly decorated dials… The creations presented this year testify once again to the brand’s inexhaustible creativity in the interpretation of such a suggestive theme through a wide range of ever - powerful variations.

Inspired by Bulgari’s historical collection that has been given a contemporary twist, this sophisticated and charismatic new jewellery model flows around the wrist like a precious and luminous river.

    Impressive palette of skills

    Serpenti
2012 offers a broad range of versions conveying the impressive palette of watch and jewellery skills cultivated by Bulgari. Over the years, the House has explored a number of subtle and delicate variations in crafting the Serpenti bracelet, cleverly combining the precious metal frame with gemsetting and enamelling, while maintaining the suppleness of this masterpiece, whatever the bracelet structure.

This interpretation of the serpent theme bears eloquent witness to the multidisciplinary creative mastery of Bulgari, which displays its amazing diversity of talents through Serpenti Jewellery – a model stemming from a lengthy hand-crafted procedure in which each of the bracelet links, evoking the scales of a snake, is shaped and finished by hand.

The 18-carat gold bracelet of Serpenti Jewellery watches is crafted according to traditional goldsmithing techniques, representing a form of excellence and expertise that holds no secrets for the Bulgari artisans. This masterpiece wraps two coils of a diaphanous precious metal structure twice around the wrist, clothing them in jet black or ivory white enamel scales set with brilliant-cut diamonds inspired by the historical creations of the House. Despite its complexity, this precious construction ensures ideal comfort on the wrist.

A patiently executed series of hand-crafted operations

At the end of a process involving traditional jewellery techniques, the black or ivory white enamelled pink gold links composing the articulated bracelet of the Serpenti Jewellery are individually prepared by hand and set with brilliant-cut diamonds before the cold-enamel is applied to the cavities created specifically for this purpose using a dedicated tool. The artisan then spreads out the material smoothly using a brush, before placing a drop of transparent enamel on top of the first layer – a delicate operation designed to give a rounded curve to each of the bracelet elements.

At each stage in applying the enamel, the link is fired in the furnace in order to fix the matter in its appointed place. Once this process is complete, the links are ready to be assembled. A tiny hand-crafted hinge links them to each other, before their lower end is fitted with an 18-carat white gold internal spring that will enable them to slide smoothly over the wrist, and the watch itself is secured to the bracelet.

The reptile head-shaped watch case forms a natural extension of the bracelet. Housing a Swiss quartz movement specially personalised for Bulgari, it is set on either side with 6 brilliant-cut diamonds framing a dial – in black sapphire or white mother-of-pearl depending on the version – graced with 12 diamond-set hour-markers.

The two new enamelled Serpenti Jewellery models with double-wrap coils are now joined by the single-coil Serpenti Jewellery 18-carat pink gold version featuring links also set with brilliant-cut diamonds. The first two are set with a total of 385 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bracelet, case and dial, while the latter is adorned with 245 diamonds. At once a watch and a vivid expression of highly accomplished jewellery mastery, these three new releases powerfully enrich the Serpenti line and its ultimate iconic version fitted with a Tubogas bracelet.
