CHANEL, Première Édition Originale
No surprises here, the first watch of this list is a Première. In fact, this is not just any Première, but the new Édition Originale released by Channel for Autumn.
In our article “A new Chanel ambassador premieres with a Première”, we presented this new piece which takes another look at the identity of the maison. You can recognize the octagonal case inspired by the shape of the N°5 perfume cap and by the shape of the place Vendôme – which Gabrielle Chanel used to admire from her suite at the Ritz . But also the gold-plated chain bracelet intertwined with the black leather ribbon of the famous quilted handbag of the maison. Moreover, this yellow gold-plated steel case contains an intense black lacquered dial, marked with thin golden hands. With them, time seems all in all useless.
Last detail but not the least, actress, model, and Chanel ambassador Lily-Rose Depp, became the face of the Première Édition Originale campaign. She stars in a film directed by Inez and Vinoodh in Coco Chanel’s Parisian apartment at the 31 rue Cambon.
OMEGA, Seamaster 300
This collection has caught our blue eyes this summer: the Summer Blue by Omega. It pays tribute to the iconic diving watch of the manufacture: the Seamaster. This watch celebrates its 75th anniversary through eight models recounting the history and the expertise of the maison when it comes to diving instruments. You can indeed make out different references by the colours of the dials – among other things – which refer to their degree of water-resistance.
The Seamaster 300 is a perfect example. As its name implies, it is 300-meter water-resistant, and it has a smoky blue dial. Inspired by a 1957 model, this 41 mm steel watch has all the useful features for diving: unidirectional rotating bezel, screwed-down crown, luminescent hands and indices. Master Chronometer certified, the automatic winding calibre with Co-axial escapement has a silicon balance spring which is resistant to magnetic fields. It also has two barrels mounted in series. All in all, this is a powerful and precise instrument.
TUDOR, Pelagos FXD “Alinghi Red Bull Racing Edition”
As a celebration of its partnership with the Alinghi Red Bull Racing sailing race, Tudor expands its Pelagos FXD collection with a watch in the colours of the race. Made of matte black carbon composite, the 42 mm case has a titanium unidirectional rotating bezel with a carbon composite layout. Besides, its 60 minutes graduations are coated in luminescent material for a perfect visibility in any circumstance.
It is the same thing for the blue dial where the characteristic “Snowflake” hands – introduced in 1969 – contrast with the background. The ensemble is completed by a matching blue fabric technical strap, which gives a resolutely sporty look to this edition. It also features a buckle with a self-gripping fastening system, which makes for a better grip during energetic races. Offering a 70-hour power reserve, the manufacture calibre is COSC certified (official chronometer Swiss control. It also has a silicon balance spring resistant to magnetic fields. The whole collection also has a 43 mm wide chronometer.
TAG HEUER Carrera Limited Edition
A tribute to French car racing, this 42 mm steel Carrera shows its colours. Blue, white, and red, the three colours are displayed on a slightly grained dial, on the chronograph’s counters, on the date’s aperture – at 6 o’clock –, on the hands and on the indices as well. To assert French elegance, this watch has a navy-blue perforated calfskin strap, which emphasizes its sportive and vintage look. The instrument has plenty of power under the hood, as it is powered by the famous automatic calibre Heuer 02 with an 80-hour power reserve and a blue gracefully openwork oscillating mass – reminiscent of the shape of a steering wheel. This beautiful watch is truly made for racing.
Edition limited to 200 copies – €6 350
BREITLING, Navitimer 36
The Navitimer was discovered during the first show dedicated to the Geneva Watch Days 2023 – namely THE watchmaking event that took place between August 29 and September 2 – the Navitimer 36 collection is now available for the daintiest wrists. This is the case for this reference, which mixes steel and red gold – that meets the Swiss Better Gold Association’s criteria – and is powered by a COSC-certified automatic calibre with a 38-hour power reserve. This 30-meter water-resistant timepiece is endowed with a beaded bezel and stands out thanks to its white mother-of-pearl dial, featuring the iconic circular slide rule of the watchmaking line.
The precious dial is also marked with better diamonds – lab-grown and traceable. Going further for a harmonious look, this variation has a two-tone steel and red gold seven-row bracelet. This beauty is represented by an ambassador of the maison: actress Charlize Theron.
ZENITH, Pilot Big Date Flyback
For the anecdote, Zenith has had very close ties with the universe of aviation since its creation. At the beginning of the 20th century, the founder of the watchmaking house indeed understood that humans will conquer the sky. Maybe he had a crystal ball, maybe he was just a visionary. Either way he filed a patent for the French term “pilote” and later for the English version “pilot” as well. Only years later will the manufacture start to make watches and flight instruments for pilots.
Ever since, Zenith has been the only brand able to have the terms “pilote” and “pilot” written on its timepieces. Many models then followed, such as the one presented during the last Watches and Wonders show in Geneva, the Pilot Big Date Flyback. This one was presented by Frank Sans C in his second video about Watches and Wonders 2023 and in the following article:
The new collab: RESTREPO x FRANK SANS C
Attention please, this is a rare one! The Ellipse Mach 3 is the fruit of the collaboration between the watchmaking maison Restrepo and Frank Sans C. There are only 10 of them. The watch displays the favourite colours of our tick-tock fanatic and has a navy-blue rubber strap with white loops.
The 316L steel case has an elliptical shape, a staple of the collection. It is powered by a well-made Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750 movement. Decorated with Côte de Genève, the chronograph exhibits its beautiful enamel dial, punctuated with green luminescent hands.
Remember, Federico Restrepo already paid a visit to the set of Frank Sans C to unveil some of the emblematic pieces of his collections and introduce us to the world of Restrepo:
