CRAZY JUNGLE SEAHORSE: The Grace of the Seas
Boucheron has delved into the depths of the ocean to alight upon one of the world’s most beloved sea creatures as inspiration for this latest creation. The majestic seahorse, famous in Greek mythology as the half horse/half fish creature that pulled Poseidon’s chariot, has a dignity and intelligence that imbues the Crazy Jungle Seahorse timepiece.
The Boucheron artisans used their expertise to create a rich and energetic dial that is teaming with sea life. The central seahorse looks as if it is about to glide away through the ocean waves with its sculpted body covered in pink, yellow and orange sapphires set on multiple levels. This clever bas relief touch allows the light to roll across the colorful gems and enhance the feeling of movement. Behind it, set into the mother-ofpearl dial, delicate round “bubbles” can be perceived that also have been crafted from mother-of-pearl and set into the face to add an additional 3D element to the piece. Sunset shaded bejeweled coral, which compliment the seahorse, ignore the confines of the dial and grow out to envelope the diamond covered watch bezel. Thus the coral expands the underwater universe to embrace the watch more fully, giving it a richness and depth with a sensual undertone. A secondary seahorse, located at 3 o’clock, is a showcase for Boucheron’s mastery of marquetry. Crafted out of slices of fossilized palm trees, the little seahorse illustrates the House’s extensive savoir faire. Finally the swirling currents of the sea are recreated on the “Crazy Seconds” module which is found tucked in next to the curving jewel covered seahorse. Its disc is adorned with a fish that slowly swims in circles as time goes by. The overall effect created by this watch is of an underwater calm and serenity where the refined beauty of one of the ocean’s most unique creatures transmits its tranquil grace through the talents of Boucheron’s master artisans.
Framing the seascape of the rose gold watch is a bezel covered in 48 brilliant cut white diamonds. The heritage of Boucheron is apparent along the side of the 42mm watch, where the House’s iconic Pointes de Diamant motif subtly identifies the timepiece as a Boucheron creation. On the back of the watch the distinctive elliptical display window allows watch to connoisseurs catch a glimpse of the GP 4000 movement with its customized rotor in the form of Boucheron’s historic poinçon. The Crazy Jungle Seahorse comes in two incarnations: one with a diamond bezel and an abundance of coral, the other with a more soberly stylized seashore and a more refined elegance.
