CRAZY JUNGLE HATHI: Kaleidoscope of Luxury
They say that an elephant never forgets. One thing is for sure, the new Crazy Jungle Hathi watch is an unforgettable piece of craftsmanship. This timepiece gets its moniker from the Hindi word for elephant and is inspired by the ceremonial elephants used by royalty. The proud pachyderm symbolizes good luck with its trunk theatrically curved up in the air.
The connection between Boucheron and the vibrant country of India dates back over a century when Louis Boucheron first traveled to India in 1909 and became enamored with its history and distinctive cultural style of adornment. The history of both Boucheron and India would be forever linked after the Maharajah of Patiala turned to Boucheron in 1928 and commissioned a panoply of jewelry. The resulting 149 pieces of breathtaking beauty still influence the House’s contemporary craftsmen to this day.
It is this combined heritage and love of the Orient that lead Boucheron to create two versions of the Crazy Jungle Hathi watch. One in white gold with an after dark color palette of sapphires and tsavorites and one in rose gold with a Bollywood flair of yellow and orange sapphires. This high precision pachyderm boldly dominates the dial with its rotund shape. Its celebratory mood can not be contained within the dial and the elephant brakes free of the watch face and overtakes the bezel. Its diamond covered toes and trunk find purchase on the lip of the watch case.
There is a feeling of movement in these “rare” white diamond elephants. Their colorful blankets, that mix colored gems with golden pearls, undulate off the edge of the timepieces. The “Crazy Seconds” module acts like a spinning kaleidoscope of colors which can be seen through delicate gold tear drop shaped apertures. This enhances the beauty of the blanket and gives the timepiece a sculpted sense of depth. Volume is also created through the 3D starry skyline and via the more than 300 stones which have been set into the dial and are delicately shaded to heighten the sensation of rich roundness.
Surrounding the sage elephant is a bezel of 40 white diamonds that seamlessly shade from yellow to orange sapphires on the rose gold watch and a shadowing ring of white diamonds that fade into blue sapphires on the white gold watch. The heritage of Boucheron is apparent along the side of the 42mm watch where the House’s iconic Pointes de Diamant motif subtly identifies the timepiece as a Boucheron creation. On the back of the watch the distinctive elliptical display window allows watch connoisseurs catch a glimpse of the GP 4000 movement with its customized rotor in the form of Boucheron’s historic poinçon.
