CRAZY JUNGLE FLAMINGO: Fishing for Excellence
The statuesque elegance of the pink flamingo has been transformed by Boucheron into a stunning High Jewelry timepiece. The flamingo is considered by the Egyptians to be the embodiment of the mythical Phoenix which was said to live for centuries and could be reborn from its own ashes. A bird that flies free as if liberated from the constrains of gravity and earthy concerns to float effortlessly on a gentle zephyr. It is a fitting metaphor for a watch that has a timeless beauty and unexpected originality that will make it a talking piece for years to come.
The colorful bird is the beautiful focal point of a watch that uses the expertise of the House’s legendary craftsmen to
create texture and intriguing perspective. This timepiece turns its attention towards the idea of layers. Not unlike
the precise and perfect way the flamingo folds its feathers seamlessly on top of each other, this watch has wafer thin
(.05mm thick) sheets of mother-of-pearl, no thicker than a piece of tissue paper, to give the riverbed motif the
impression of a translucent waterway. This 3D effect makes it possible for the bird’s graceful profile to appear as
if seen through rippling water. Its spindly legs support its pink sapphire body, as schools of fish swim about its beak.
As birds fly across the dial’s background, the flamingo’s distinctive pink body is given added texture with a black
lacquer outline that delineates its flurry of feathers from the elegant form of the bird. Those distinctive pink feathers gain
an added sense of roundness and lifelike vitality thanks to the intricate degrading effect implemented with the pink
sapphires and diamonds. Sprouting out about the flamingo are pussy willows crafted from shaded green tsavorites that
grow out so far that they “pierce” the edge of the dial to decorate the watch bezel with their stylish silhouette. This imaginative technique adds a feeling of fluidity to the timepiece as the multiple levels of the dial create depth. The concept of layers is also reinforced by the “Crazy Seconds” module that has the regal pink flamingo endlessly hunting a fish and a crawdaddy that perpetually remain out of its reach.
Bordering the stately flamingo on the white gold watch is a bezel covered in diamonds. The heritage of Boucheron is
apparent along the side of the 42mm watch where the House’s iconic Pointes de Diamant motif subtly identifies the timepiece as a Boucheron creation. On the back of the watch the distinctive elliptical display window allows watch connoisseurs to catch a glimpse of the GP4000 movement with its customized rotor in the form of Boucheron’s historic poinçon. The Crazy Jungle Flamingo comes in two incarnations; one with a diamond bezel and an abundance of greenery, the other in a more temperate look and a quiet poise befitting this unique bird.
