THE ORIENTALE: The Art of Adornment

Boucheron’s fascination with the Orient is one of its most enduring passions. It has been a point of inspiration for over a century, since Louis Boucheron first traveled to India in 1909 and became enamored with its culture, history and the people’s appreciation of beautiful embellishments. The history of both the House and India would be forever linked after the Maharajah of Patiala turned to Boucheron in 1928 and commissioned a panoply of jewelry. The resulting 149 pieces of breathtaking beauty still influence the House’s craftsmen to this day. In that spirit of exploration and imagination, Boucheron is launching a new watch line aptly called the Orientale.

In a style befitting a modern day Maharajah, these watches are lushly decorated, embellished with dazzling diamonds and delicate engraving, which display the remarkable combinations of savoir faire of the House’s artisans. The linked petal motif at the heart of the mother-of-pearl dial is outlined in sparkling diamonds, and underneath one can see an undulating pattern evoking the rippling of water after a flower has touched down on its surface. Offsetting the central design of this watch are dewdrops of deeper colors; a rich blue against the light blue dial of the steel watch or a fiery red on the blush pink face of the rose gold timepiece, which add dynamism to the design.

The Orientale watch case is not left unembellished. Beside the textured elegance of the clou de Paris metalwork on the side of the case, the bezel had been emboldened with diamonds. Cleverly positioned in a staircase setting, each of the three rings of stones grows in size as they approach the dial, thus giving a sense of rounded volume to these distinctive timepieces.

Below its strikingly brilliant surface the Orientale watch is just as beautiful. The movement within the case is the GP4000 from Girard-Perregaux. It can be perceived through an elliptical aperture on the back of the watch where the rotor, which is in the form of Boucheron’s historic poinçon, can be seen.

L'Orientale watch in rose gold and diamonds with automatic GP4000 movement. Dial in light pink mother-of-pearl mosaic set with diamonds and pink sapphires. Available with a pink satin watch strap.

Models where exceptional craftsmanship meet with audacious creativity. The House of Boucheron combines the subtle art of a watchmaker’s detailing and a jeweler’s creativity to offer sumptuous and surprising new interpretations.
