Big Crown “Bullseye”: tradition remains in Oris’s sights
Oris became independent in 1904 and has roamed free the Swiss watchmaking landscape ever since. True to its mechanical convictions and its pioneering spirit, the house asserts its identity through the new Big Crown Pointer Date “Bullseye” – returning to the basics both symbolically and aesthetically.
Oris: Independence as a base
Oris has remained independent since its creation in 1904, and this liberty has been shaping their strategy for more than 120 years. This autonomy justifies their clear choices: producing mechanical watches exclusively, defending fair prices, putting human beings and environmental responsibility in the foreground. “On paper, we’re an independent company (…) In practice, this means we’re free to make our own decisions and take the path we think is right” they once stated. Such philosophy naturally attracts watchmaking afficionados who share the same mindset. Ulrich W. Herzog, Oris’s Chairman, summarized it well: “The Big Crown Pointer Date embodies Oris’s independent spirit.”

The Big Crown model: A historical cornerstone
The Big Crown Pointer Date model was introduced for pilots in 1938 and soon became one of the most recognizable models among the affordable branch of the Swiss watchmaking industry. Its oversized crown – meant to be manipulated with gloves, its large Arabic numerals and its central hand time display make for its iconic look.
The Pointer Date complication was introduced the same year and remains a keystone of the collection – even after Oris was brought by Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog and centered on mechanical watches. “We made the decision to focus on mechanical watches, and at that point we decided to make this legendary complication a collection cornerstone. It’s still here today, a constant for almost 90 years” Ulrich W. Herzog added.

This model crossed decades without any major stylistic rupture. It embodies some sort of reassuring continuity in a field where aesthetic outdoing is a common practice. The Big Crown is a coherent collection, everchanging yet timeless.

“Bullseye”: A new Big Crown edition
The 2026 edition signs the return of a design almost forgotten: the concentric two-coloured “Bullseye” dial. This aesthetic came out during the 1920s and was particularly popular during the 1940s and the 1970s. Its last appearance dated from 1998.

Water-resistant up to 50 meters, this new Big Crown Pointer Date “Bullseye” showcases a structured dial: black and ice grey concentric circles, a red minute scale and a matching Pointer Date hand. Contrasting depths immediately appear. Available with a balanced 38mm stainless-steel case (with a height of 12.20mm), this model features the emblematic fluted bezel and large screwed-down crown.

On the inside, the automatic Oris Calibre 754 offers a power reserve of 41 hours alongside stop-second and instantaneous date complications. The transparent case back reveals its signature red rotor. The Cervo Volante sustainable deer leather strap adds a responsible dimension to the piece – true to Oris’s current engagements.
